Granted the last few years have seen a major price run up, but everything is relative. The median house here (in pricey old Whitefish) is still in the mid $300's, even though the high end can now be in the $10 million area (long lake frontage).
Sib, you live in whitefish? Did you by any chance see us (Bullrun) when we were in town filming the show?
On Topic to OP and minion
Money fuels everything....dont think so? Then try and acquire and operate your own ski resort, see how far you will get without tons of start-up cash and tons of cash flow to keep in operation.
While the 'core' skier might be the guy living the simple ski bum life, he is not the person that keeps the industry alive....its people who ski 10 days a year and spend $15k to do so that allow you and every other "real" skier to ski at lift operated resorts.
Look, as stated you can skin it....or hitch hike to Alaska (Into the Wild style) and ski the biggest mountains with the most snow for free...if you live.
Dont get me wrong I hate the fact it costs me what it does to ski...yeah I am that guy...but you know what I cant change it, neither can all of us on this forum...so deal with it or quit, its just that simple.
