I drove off from the ski area carpark at high speed several years ago with one side of the ski rack open and deposited mine and two friends skis on to the asphalt. Damage was significant. I was not popular.
That reminds me ......
Brother buys me a bike rack for my birthday. He drives 200 miles with his girlfriend and their brand new mountain bikes (never ridden) to deliver my present and go bike riding. He even shows me how to put the rack on the car and in the process opens the straps etc on his rack to show how it fits. We then both drive off to the ride start point but he forgets to re-secure his bikes and I was driving behind him
It's amazing just how high a mountain bike can bounce when it comes off a car doing 50 mph. Picking the bikes out of the hedge later by the side of the skid marked road, many cars stopped with great concern for the bike rider and some even suspected we were attempting a hit and run.
My brother looks at his totaly pee'd off girlfriend and says "it's not so bad" and then attempts to spin the front wheel of her bike. The badly buckled wheel moves about 8" and then stops dead - for some reason she didn't believe him.
