oddly enough, i found that i spent more time skiing last season than reading the magazines.
i found a stack of last year's issues gathering dust in a corner, went through them a few weeks ago and pulled out the key stories/tips, then recycled the rest.
now that i've got all my gear i find that i'm less and less gnawing at the bone to get the latest issues of the mags (like SKI and Skiing). I also find that they sort of repeat themselves every year with the same basic stories covering the same basic resorts, with a cool out-of-the-way/esoteric feature every now and then.
i actually prefer to read a good story/feature rather than gander at a bunch of pictures of guys who ski way better than me.
got the most recent Freeskier with the gear issue. thumbed through it at work, but again, since i've pretty much got my quiver solidified i'm not as excited about it as i would have been say 2 seasons ago. plus i'm more interested in boutique and smaller ski companies, which still get the short end of the stick in terms of coverage in the mags.
i keep hearing good things about Ski Journal, though, so perhaps i'll have to scope it out.
