I usually eat a high-carb breakfast - hot grains, with nuts, dried fruit and milk. I feel rock-solid afterwards, but still get cold.
I think layering works in CO, but one the layers has to be down (down sweater).
If find it takes too many non-down layers (which bunch and bind) with too much weight, to ward off the chill.
Down garments have never been better. 700 and 800-fill goose down, with fused baffles, stomp on the old duck-feather coats we used to wear.
Down sweaters by Pategonia, The North Face and others, are slim-fitting, and look good.
If I overheat this year, I'll adjust. Last year was painful.
