This is what is great about baseball...no time clock.

This is why I love the Red Sox. They break your heart, then they tease you again, then they break your heart, then they tease you again, then they give you a heart attack ....

then you wake up and they're still in it beyond every possible reason why they shouldn't be.

the Sox rallied for the biggest postseason comeback in 79 years,
Ok - now I get it. First they suck, then they bust old records.

Well rusty, as Dear Abby would say ... "wake up and smell the coffee", and be sure to dish up a big serving of crow to go with the eggs and toast this mornin'.

Or you could have a nice bowl of cereal ...... Coco Crisp ..

Them beaners pulled out the stops in the seventh last night after you napped out and put a bouncer into the stands for the win.

Second biggest comeback in MLB history.

I ain't got a dog in this fight as a Yanks fan .... I just don't hate the Sox ..... actually ... that hate thing is a Boston thing ... kind of a money making cottage industry up there. You don't see "Boston Sucks" T-shirts and stuff like that down here, at least I've never seen them.

Absolutely precious.

What a comeback - stayed up for it, saw it, still can't believe it.

This team has the fortitude to do it - and magic somehow happens time and again!

Game 6 and Beckett tomorrow - ho boy ... Guinness at my local Irish pub Satdy night again ... can't wait!!

ps - so nice to be playing postseason baseball still!

******* spectacular. An insane series of events.

love that dirty watah...

The Red Sox did not suck last night.

How many people got HBP last night? Had to be a record for most without someone getting thrown out?
Man - they are amazing. Beckett was Beckett and Big Papi himself (finally for both!). It was great until my wife had to drive me home from too much intake (another story - got a little overenthusiastic, no harm done though except my liver .

But I saw the end of the game anyway at home ...

Game 7 ALCS yet again ... unreal, I love this!

RE: HBP - yeah normally there has been a LOT of history of trouble with these two teams. But so much riding on the line ironically there was no thought of clearing the benches and someone getting tossed they might need.
What a game/series. Still pumped up about last night.

About the HBP: there were only three of them and none of them looked remotely intentional. 1st one come on an 0-2 count to Bartlett. There is no way Beckett is trying to hit him there, and Bartlett even leaned into it a bit.

Masterson hit him again on a 3-2 count in the eighth leading off the inning. You think he was trying to hit the lead-off hitter in the eighth inning with a two run lead? No way.

The Rays/Sox have a history of playing beanball. I don't think this game was an example of that.
At this point I have to give the Sox the edge. Rays have the youth and power - but Sox have the experience. Being in a game 7 is like nothing else, and only 3 of the Rays have ever been in one while 19 of the Sox have.

Lester should be fine. Could go either way of course.

btw isn't it kind of great that all this talk about how great the Sox are is happening in irul&ublo's Red Sox Suck thread?

I wonder how long ago he unsubscribed from his own thread. He could close it, but I imagine he's just waiting for the Sox to lose so he can post here again.

Actually as I recall the chant is "Yankees Suck" isn't it?

That thought crossed my mind, but you know he is waiting in the wings to rub it in if the Rays snatch it back tonight (or tomorrow morning the way things have been going)

Any Phillies fans around? It would take a lot to get me to pull for a team named after a female horse
post #141 of 148
Well, the Sox are done and we still have not heard hardly a word from the blow er.

Whether you agree or not concering the suckiness of the Sox, there can be no doubt of their entertainment value. You betcha that was a great series.
Well done Rays, and well deserved. But that 7-0 comeback still goes down in history. Nice run for the Red Sox over the last few years; despite being a Yankee fan I salute them. But it looks like time to break that team up.
prickly I don't see any need to break up the team. A new shortsop would help, a little help in the bullpen, maybe even another starter, but they did quite well with the team they have. Mike Lowell was out, Beckett is hurt, there was a rookie at short and big Papi is probably hurt too (we'll find that out soon I'd think.)

With all that they came within an 8th inning hit last night of the World Series. They won 95 games. I think the team is built nicely.

They just lost to a young and very good Rays who had home field advantage.
Well, I obviously haven't seen the team as much as you have. But Varitek won't be back, right? And Drew's not under contract any longer. Is Bay? Plus Lowell, who's no youngster, has the kind of injury he may never really recover from. Those are a lot of question marks, without even looking at the pitching (which is pretty good, despite a less reliable Beckett and an aging Wakefield).

I didn't mean so much that they should break up the team, as that they will have to, given the choices they've got to make this offseason. Breaking up and retooling happens fast these days, though, particularly for your big-market teams. No reason to think they can't contend next year in what could be a terrific division. Jake Peavy anyone?
As for the Yankees, I think dropping that Red Sox shirt in the concrete worked despite them digging it back up
post #146 of 148
great series. american league east should be pretty lively next year. the sox have a shortstop in lowrie. i love varitek, nobody calls a better game or is a better handler of pitchers, but that bat's looking heavy. if lowell is out, i don't mind kotsay at first and yook at third. theo will take care of business. sucks to have the season stop but the rays did it all year and stepped up bigtime. like manny says, "the better team wins." i think they're better'n the phillies, too. too much pitching and a few guys with power who seem pretty locked in.
There is no joy in Mudville. Boston is bummed out right now. However, it was a hell of a battle. The Rays were just that bit better when it counted. Second place is just first looser. How much you loose by is of no matter.

You know what else is for "loosers"? Spelling.

Sorry, still feeling the end of season blues.
