Train Wreck Thread

Since every thread that makes it to page 2 devolves into an utter train wreck, wandering off track and onto new pointless directions that have no bearing on the OP, let's just start with the carnage.

As an example VA wrote an 'interesting' bit of fiction for internal reasons, he asked for it to be left alone... it's now about Cats vs. Christianity.

So I'll start with a blanket statement, react to it or drift... you decide.

skiing isn't very expensive if you keep it about outdoor recreation, make it a consumer sport and you've only got yourself to blame. You don't need new skis.

I'll play...

Outdoor recreation costs money (gear, travel, insurance) and if you dont live in close proximity to it, it costs even more money. If you have a family even more money. If some members in the family are not particularly fond of skiing, you have to entertain them while you are shooshing, so that costs more money still. Yes you can blame yourself for being close to the family, for wanting to do activities together, including them in your plans, and for wanting them to be as happy as you are while on the mountains, or even for marrying the "wrong" person. But ummm, as much as we all love skiing, I dont care if you are Herman Maier, its not your life, its just a non-essential piece of it.

The "you dont need new skis" statement....aside from racers, and even then, you are probably right...so shoot me. Now if you excuse me I have to go pay my credit card for the 2 new pairs

I was under the impression that VA said he was not in trouble and he didn't need help and requested that folks not poke fun at his musings. I missed the part where he demanded that no one respond to it at all in any mannor. My bad for that

Don't NEED... might WANT.

comic relief response: Get them on eBay, post questions in 'Ask the Boot Guys Forum' for how to tweek them, start your thread with "...there aren't any boot fitters near me (even though I ski every weekend)"

Everyone needs a plug. Everyone. Buy them in your street shoe size and then "Ask The Boot Guys" how to make them fit.

WARNING DERAILMENT SEQUENCE HAS BEEN INITIATED*

*as was predicted....but the author is the guilty party!!!! Took only 10 posts.

I only get new skis and boots once or twice per decade, and operate primarily with single ski quiver. Make clothing last too. Upgrade in between new buys with used stuff purchased at swaps. Problem is I support family of five other skiers same way on single income, so it adds up to as much as a high maintenance individual skier/consumer.
Given assocated transportation, lodging, dining, and misc travel expenses skiing is expensive any way I look at it, but it beats sitting around watching TV all winter and we all need something to look forward to.

Expensive is a VERY relative term.

"Need" new skis ... am I not entitled?

1st, I said you don't NEED them, I'll be HAPPY to sell them to you.

2nd, yes 'expensive' is a relative term... but this is an Alpine Skiing Website and it's August, if you are here odds are you have a computer and some spare time and at least a passing interest in skiing... there is a very strong chance you qualify for 'Can Afford (even if it takes strategic planning)', agreed?

There is a financial commitment though. I expect to ski 40 days and if there's any money left over i might buy some gear..... spent about $33 a day just for passes.......

i'm hoping that by quoting OP and rambling on a bit more that i get us to page two.......

because

I love a train reck So Jer where's that Padded Room u said they had here???? I'd take the train but i'm afraid to fly.

No i don't need new skis but would like a new pair of pants and some dynastar 8k would be nice.

So wutta you got to do to get sent to banned camp sounds like fun with the bobble heads and all. Where's the train???
Dang Jimmy, you just doubled your post count.

I didn't buy skis last season, so I'm pretty much due. I think I need something about 130 mm wide cause, its getting harder to float.

Did they ban those Julia Mancuso posters? Damn them!
Real skiers ski snowlerblades. You are all a bunch of sissies.

Who needs more than one pair anyway ? That's just dumb, owning many pairs.

Jimmy .You have to take the subway to find the Padded Room
post #29 of 118
Can't have new gear without a new helmet
Helmets are nothing but a fashion statement and they make your butt look so big.

I'm seeing some serious steering going on here.
