Hello- It's time to upgrade ski's for our 12 year old daughter. She's 5'0" and 85 pounds. A level 6-7 skier that loves to go fast. All of our skiing is in the Mid-Atlantic area, needles to say ice in the morning, slop in the afternoon. Any reccomondations? Thanks in advance!

Rossi Bandit Jr 148.

Old-style K2 Apache Jr 146.

Line Celebrity Mini 143 or 153.

K2 Missy 149.

My kids have skied (albeit in different lengths and sometimes with different gendered topsheets) and loved each.

Seconded on Alpine Dads suggestions.

One thing - the Rossi Bandit Jr has been replaced by the Rossi Phantom for 08/09. Still a great ski. (although the website hasn't been updated to reflect that yet)

And making the Bandit Jr more of a bargain, if you can find them.

Thanks for the replies so far. Do you think she weighs enough to ski a womans ski or should we just look at the junior/ kids skis?

I'd think 85 pounds is enough for a shorter size woman's ski-same as another 5' woman would use. She's 12 so she will probably grow some more this winter too. I'd sugest letting her pick her skis based on some guidance from you/us then you being final approver of course.

crgildart- I agree with what you're saying.

We're taking our time and trying to get as many suggestions as possible.

We definetly want a ski thats going to hold well on ice. Our daughter is a very aggresive skier that loves to go full blast, hit jumps and have a great time on the slopes. We usually ski twice a week so we want to get her a ski she's not going to outgrow ability wise by the end of the season.

My 11 yr old daughter has some Volkl RaceTiger GS. They seem like they are really nice skis. Great edge hold. My daughter is 5'2" 95 lbs. Excellent skier, races sometimes when she feels like it, but mostly prefers pow and trees. She is on 157s.

Give Ptex ( http://www.alpinehigh.net )a call he may have some left and can get you hooked up for a good price.

Find her a high end ski shop (just a good shop actually) and you will find that some have a seasonal rental program.

That way you can get her into higher end (right up to race) on new stuff .... generally new stuff for pennies on what you are going to lose when you try to get rid of it a year later.

The seasonal program near me was actually going to do adjustments if the foot size changed at mid season at no extra charge.

If she rips on the icy stuff a good SL is probably a sure bet but you should learn to do the edge sharpening and waxing.

Post what area you are from and perhaps someone can steer you to a good shop.
