The Fever Returns

Thread Starter
It's back. That feeling of anticipation similar to a first date, or reuniting with a loved one, or Christmas morning as a child. After only 3.5 months from my last day of the 07-08 season, and find myself again afflicted with ski fever.

I had tried to put these thoughts out of my mind after my last day on the slopes May 2, 2008. Last season was off the charts here in CO: almost non-stop snowfall from early December until past closing day at most resorts. May 2 saw over a foot of freshies and mid season weather, and that was just one of numerous powder days I experienced. I met and skied with the most Bears ever last season. It was and epic year.

But by May, I was ready for summer: tennis, biking, hiking. Things were going just fine until last Friday when my Powder Mag arrived in the mail. Friday was also the first day of a 3 day rain/snow event here in CO with temps in Denver not climbing out of the 50's. Mt Evans was plastered with 10" of heavy wet snow by the time it was over. Roads were closed over several passes in N. Colorado. What's going on here? It's the middle of August! As I drive into work this morning, I see that Mt. Evans remains blanketed in the white. That feeling begins to intensify: quickened pulse, nervous energy, visions of powder days, and longings to ski with old and new friends alike.

I need a remedy, but from years of battling this fever, I know the only cure is those first turns of the new season which still looms several months in the future. Thankfully, these forums exist. Here I can write these words and vent my frustrations. Hopfully, no one else is so afflicted this early in the year. Thanks for letting me vent. I hope to see some of you on the slopes here in CO this coming season.

I would say it is safe to say...those who frequent this board have the FEVER....especially if you had an EPIC year like we did in Colorado...

My ski buddy said he has watched Lost and Found every night this week because he has no internet or tv. The last time he was on the internet was my computer which happen to be on the past weeks storm in CO. That is like dangling a crack pipe in front of an addict.

Something's Coming

Yeah, our hands are ready but summer still holds the ball. Soon though....

Could be!
Who knows?
There's something due any day;
I will know right away,
Soon as it shows.
It may come cannonballing down through the sky,
Gleam in its eye,
Bright as a rose!

Who knows?
It's only just out of reach,
Down the block, on a beach,
Under a tree.
I got a feeling there's a miracle due,
Gonna come true,
Coming to me!

Could it be? Yes, it could.
Something's coming, something good,
If I can wait!
Something's coming, I don't know what it is,
But it is
Gonna be great!

With a click, with a shock,
Phone'll jingle, door'll knock,
Open the latch!
Something's coming, don't know when, but it's soon;
Catch the moon,
One-handed catch!

Around the corner,
Or whistling down the river,
Come on, deliver
To me!
Will it be? Yes, it will.
Maybe just by holding still,
It'll be there!

Come on, something, come on in, don't be shy,
Meet a guy,
Pull up a chair!
The air is humming,
And something great is coming!
Who knows?
It's only just out of reach,
Down the block, on a beach,
Maybe tonight . . .

Wasatch mornings are getting chilly...

Fever? I'd say its more like herpes - it never really goes away and occasionally has serious outbreaks.

I guess no one will be skiing with me this winter now.

I don't think anyone reported it here on Epic yet, but sources inform me there was some snow flurries spotted a little west of Denver.

Fever

FEVER I don't have any stinking fever.

However: The coldest place in the Nation on Aug 16th was Elk City Idaho a cool 33 degrees.

5 or 6 weeks ago it got dark at 10 PM now it is 8PM - now thats progress.

UPS delivered my new digital camera today and it even has a "snow" mode.

For the past 3 DAYS I have been installing a Chairlift on my rear patio, hanging a cable etc. Pics when I figure out how.

In about 10 minutes I am going to send in my $200 deposit for Big Sky ESA in April, eek. thats 7 months away. But gotta do it.

Discussed with my Powder partner if we should rent a room, apt etc. in Kellog rather than pay all that gas money.

FEVER - I DON'T HAVE ANY LITTLE FEVER - I AM TRULY SICK

Soon as it snows.
It may come pucking down from the sky,
Clouds in the sky,
Deep as the snow!

Who knows?
It's only just out of reach,
Down from the lift, on the snow,
In the trees.
I got a feeling there's a storm due,
Gonna come true,
Coming to me!

Storms's coming, storms are good,
If I can wait!
Storm's coming, I don't know when it is,
But it is
Gonna be deep!

With a binding click, with a shock,
Bindings will lock, tips will knock,
Pole to the lift!
Storm's coming, don't know when, but it's soon;
Catch the lift,
Drop the bar!

Around the corner,
Or whistling down the trail,
Come on, carve
To me!
Will it be? Yes, it will.
Maybe just by holding an edge,
It'll be there!

Come on, storms, come on in, don't be shy,
Meet a Bear,
Pull up a chair!
The air is humming,
And a great storm is coming!
Who knows?
It's only just out of reach,
Down the trail, on a slope,
Maybe tonight . . .
Fixed it for you.

But all of the foreplay in the world can't make up for the real thing. It can't quench the thirst, satisfy the hunger or quell the craving. (God that sounds like a commercial.)

Duane; with what you’re experiencing here, I understand your difficulty:

I think your friends here are all are thinking the same right now:

It's kinda early to be getting excited, but it's currently snowing at the top of W/B with 4-6 inches expected overnight - poor little summer cam spider is gettin' chilly....

I'm feelin' it too. Buying season passes, looking for a 4WD vehicle. It's what prompted me to join this forum.
