While your at it, just for kicks, look into other brands like arc' teryx, patagonia mtn hardwear, marmot, Descente, DNA, Salomon, eider, Orage, rossi. I also ski in a lot of snowboard stuff like bonfire (solomon) and volcom. Don't limit yourself. THere's a lot of great stuff out there. look for something rated at least 10,000mm H20 Proof and 10K, breatheability, Look for windproof fabrics. If you are not skiing in wet conditions, this is fine. Of course, 20K is gore-tex level H20 proof level. You also may look for sealed seams and zippers, pit zips and a make sure the collar/hood doesn't interfere with your helmet. Check the collar where it zips in front of your chin, be sure it doesn't have exposed metal zipper banging against your chin or the zipper handle doesn't fly up and hit you. Make sure the zippers are solid and look durable. Sleeve closures should be easily adjusted with a gloved hand and should fit over gloves or allow the gloves to fit over the sleeves. Some sleeve closure tabs stick out and get in the way. Decide if you want an insulated jacket or a soft shell and just layer underneath. Too much insulation in a jacket that doesn't breathe is not a good thing! Soft shells that you can layer with may be the best bet. The outer fabric needs to be durable if you are skiing off-piste, that nice looking jacket may get torn to shreds if you are not careful.Happy hunting!
