Paddy or Tiger for PGA Player of the year?

Tiger... 4 wins in 6 events including the US Open (2nd in the Masters)

Paddy...2 wins in 12 events including back to back majors at The Open and PGA (tied for 5th at the Masters)

VERY close call but I still have to give it to Tiger.
If Tiger played in The Open and PGA and Paddy still won both I'd give it to Paddy but to me this is the tie breaker...

Tiger's brief season very impressive and his heroic US Open win on one leg just adds to his legend. But I think the player that captures two majors in the same year makes it pretty hard not to nominate him. It will be interesting who get the honor.

This is a tough one. Tiger certain pulled out an amazing win with the Rocko showdown, but Paddy has pulled off a few amazing rounds on his own.
I'm guessing Paddy takes it.

Tiger played better (when he played), so if that's the measure, then Tiger deserves it. That said, I think Paddy will win because: a) Paddy won two majors; b) Tiger didn't play enough events; and c) a lot of voters will be thinking that someone besides Tiger needs to win some time.

PH is the poster child for ridiculously slow play. He deserves to never get the POY title because of that alone.

Harrington. What Dino said.

You had a good argument until C, but I agree with the rest.

Will Tiger bw able to qualify as "Comeback Player of the Year" next year?

Padraig should win it. Cause he is the best this year. Isn't that what the award is "Player of the Year".
If it was "If the Player wasn't injured and had played more then they might have been the best this year", then Tiger would win it. Then again, change the title and I'd sooner award it to Greg Norman, cause he's great to watch.

...as for speed of play, just cause the Irish aren't the fastest in the world! You need to be good at playing a round, but speed isn't necessarily a good thing. I'd rather be slow and good than fast and bad.

But I heard you were slow and bad.

Are we talking about golf?

I'm slow and improving. (Although last night we managed to play at about 10 mins per hole)

Monday, I played 18 in 1:45. Rather play on the fast side, I do play with a guy that is like a human rain delay, drives me nuts.

Played a two-ball with a mate on Monday morning, half a dozen beers to go around with for breakfast, walking (of course), having to wait to play a few times (no one in front, but some crossover holes and others where it's just polite to wait for the guys on the other hole to play first) and not playing particularly well (I was 22 over after starting back triple, triple, quadruple - ugly) ... a gnat's under three hours. And the whole day still in front of you; that's the way to do it.

John Daly, as I recall, once played an Open course with a marker in the final round in two hours dead.

Padraig won 2 majors to Tigers 1.

Luck of the Irish gets my vote.

Oh, yes, the point of the thread. Tiger's a great story, a magnificent story; PH won two majors. PH.

So, Paddy won it. No surprise there.

I saw some comments that Tiger will be angry and motivated in 2009. Those comments make me laugh; the dude is already so motivated I don't know how he could ratchet it up any higher.

Also, I don't know how he could really play any better than he did in 2008 before he had surgery. I'm thinking Tiger will take most of 2009 to regain his early 2008 form, but it would be interesting if it happened sooner...

Tiger's short season was legendary and awesome, but, but isn't the award "Player of the YEAR"? It has to go to someone that played the whole year or at least more than half of it IMO. It's unfortunate that injury curtailed the season for Tiger but he's had previous great years and should have many more. Paddy deserved it this year.

But you forget, that even with Tiger playing half a year, he was still the points leader going into the playoffs..I think it could have gone either way..Doesn't really matter

No surprise Paddy won it...well deserved with two majors back to back.

It would be interesting to see how close the voting was between Tiger and Paddy.....I don't think the PGA releases the voting breakdown but my guess is Paddy won by a good margin.

Anyone feel sorry for Tiger???....didn't think so
