The ads on the left

Please move the ads to the right side. That is totally irritating!
That is rather obtrusive. And it forces wider window settings. The right edge of the advanced edit window was outside of my browser window.

I'm getting funny pale low-contrast fonts for hot links and things opposite the ad objects, too.
Agreed. Please move ads to the right side if possible.
This must have just been activated. Hmmm, not ready for prime time?
I'm just getting distracted and annoyed. I understand Epic is a business and wants to be like everyone else and make money.

However, now that it's got ADS, perhaps Epic won't need our cash to keep it going.

Although some of you may cheer, I know I'll not be on here as much.

Please let us know what browser you are using, and describe the problem.
I didn't know this was going to get turned on yet.
I think we are trying to make it so supporters don't see ads.
I'm using Firefox with Add-blocker... so I'm not seeing any adds, but I do see that everything is "right shifted", which just looks weird. If you must have the adds, at least move them to the right side!

We appreciate your feedback on the new ads appearing on your page. We signed a contract with Universal Sports to provide ad space to their advertisers in return for (ahem) money. We will be implementing many new features in the coming months, including the Video Library, all of which will cost (grimace) money. We are way excited by the response we've received thus far from those who have previewed the new video content produced by Bob Barnes. We are satisfied that we made a good bargain by exchanging some space on our page for the ability to put the Encyclopedia of Skiing to video in a compelling and professional manner, among some other exciting projects we have in the hopper.

Bonni and other skeptics, please give us a chance. I think you're gonna like the results.

*I have alerted our tech team about the problem with editing posts in the Advanced mode. Please bring up any other issues you find with the new format.

I fully understand the need to cover the costs of the sites, and if you can get a good deal by doing this, then so be it, but I'm sure a balance can be struck between making the site readable and showing the required ad space.
Even just moving the same ads to the righthand side of the page would be better - text tends to flow better when you have it lined up with the left side of the page where one's eyes naturally tend to shift while reading. Having a big gap there is distracting. Even better would be banner ads at the top (and bottom?) of each page, instead of on the sides. That way we get the maximum horizontal space for viewing pictures, etc in threads.

Is there a reason only logged-in members see the adverts?

Sorry for being so rude, I was just caught off guard and rather irritated. Left side towers are just not the norm. A right side is very tolerable. I use a relatively high resolution as I am a web developer and it weirded me out. I could imagine someone at a lower setting! Hopefully left side page placement was not a stipulation of your contract. I'm sure size is, and a 728X90 at the top would be just as effective if not more.

I am NOT against you showing ads here. In fact I would applaud it and I think everyone should be accepting of some ads as long as they don't make it more difficult to use/view the website (i.e. left side). It will allow us to enjoy more and more enhanced content. If they are not excessively intrusive (for example an interstitial or pop ups) it shouldn't be an issue in my opinion. How many people here pay for cable or satellite TV? If you want to turn off ads for supporters that would be fine (or allow them to have the ability turn them off - fun PHP programming!). For the people that have not contributed...nobody should have an issue with it. You are not paying for the ads. You don't have to click on them. The site is still free to you.

Ads don't bother me ... unless they move.

I have no problem with ads on sites or where they. If I'm interested, I'll read them and if not, I'll ignore them. But if they having movie pictures, then it becomes hard to read other stuff on the screen and the pi$$ me off so I block them.

I have my browser home set to yahoo and read that for news and stuff all the time. When the ads started moving, I installed Ad Blocker Plus. Now, I don't see the ads. Who loses? The web site, Yahoo, does as I don't see their ads. If their ads hadn't started moving, they would have been fine.

Friendly tip to all commercial web sites -- Avoid moving ads if you don't want them blocked.

Friendly tip to all web surfers everywhere -- Use Firefox and if you find ads on a site annoying, go get the Ad Blocker Plus plug-in.

Interesting. (FWIW, the ads were apparent for a short period and the forum text looked washed out using Safari.)

As one sponsor who has:
~provided a substantial economic incentive (at substantial cost) to members to become supporters with very little love in return from EpicSki owners (along with an 'entitlement attitude' by many members)
~provided countless hours of online support to members and supporters with relatively small return and the removal of visible signature links to viewers not logged in
~inquired numerous times with no response on how to become listed on the Partners and Gear pages, along with the bottoms of pages
~inquired on how to participate in ESA by offering tuning clinics with no response

All makes me wonder what options and EpicSki owner support are available to sponsors other than direct 'buy my stuff posts' which will piss off members and supporters further than the a more subtle approach while trying to genuinely offer assistance already does to some....It's a Catch 22

Is the side bar going to stay and reserved for Universal Sports only?

I do wish to thank those that have supported and shown appreciation for our efforts to date and hopefully in the future.

Yes, Terry, we are feverishly planning a "Showcase" for sponsors at the site.

(BTW, I love you.)

I'm not so much a skeptic as I am a customer.

When I'm trying to read and I get some Jitterbugging Ad bouncing and flashing yellow balls on the side, I get edgy. I don't come here to get edgy (well, there are Yuki's posts to consider).

I see that there are no sideline ads today.

As someone who has taken full advantage of Terry's generosity and support, I feel that this needs to be looked at. I understand that Epic is trying to grow, but lets not forget it is ultimately about the members.

That being said, TGR added ads to the right side. I noticed for a day or so, now no big deal. How much revenue to these ads really generate for the advertiser? Seems like it may be best to have someone advertise who members are actually likely to purchaser from.
Well, Ads showing on the left side don't bother me at all.
Maybe because I'm left handed and thus my brain is a "mirror image" of what normally a right handed guy has?
Where are the ads? I don't see no stinking ads!!!!: I want ads!!!!! more ads!!!!!! And what about rules And how about more snow I'm Mad let's fight! Oh hell, have a brew.

This moment of insanity brought to you by me.

And now on the serious side! I for one totally support Terry. If Terry has a gripe it should be addressed promptly. I am sadened to read that there are issues with supporters like Terry. There should be no issues.IMHO

I love that song! Thanks, Terry. As I said, we are working on creating a convenient place for sponsors to communicate their deals to our membership.
Thanks for turning off the adds in supporter views. 99% of the time I prefer not to see them.

But...Call me crazy, but I really would like to be able to log off then see the adds once in awhile (rarely). If they are for products I'm interested in I'd go a bit out of the way to use the link here if that helps the site $$s.

I go to eBay several times a day and if they were a sponser here and paid by the hit I would gladly log off for a sec and use the link of if got Epic $$s. Maybe an alternative would be to keep an additional sponser/advertisers list with live links in Gear or elsewhere. I assume Epic already has some kind of agreement with the companies already listed in Gear.

Just my .02

Thanks for the consideration. It'd be nice to have a TABBED area clearly showing sponsors. Will a link from the thread post header navigate to the sponsor page? Will there be a differentiation between sponsors and assistance contributing sponsors based?

Will there also be room to include sponsors on the gear page under:

EpicSki is pleased to provide these links to aid you in the selection and care of your gear.
Thanks Kyle & Mark. (Those comments are like the rare awesome golf shot that keeps one coming back for more abuse. )

How about now?
I don't have control over what you see, but I was able to change it for guests and members not logged on.
I hate the left-side placement of the ads. There is now a bunch of dead space on the left column under the ad, so when i scroll down a thread, there is a bunch of wasted space there. And that wasted space squishes the forum text into a narrower areas, just making me have to scroll even farther.

I've been on other forums with ads, and I've never seen a single site put them in the left column like that. It's very distracting, since *every* other forum I frequent starts over at the left edge of the window. Please look at other placement options.

If you want/need to put ads up, I'm fine with that, but please figure out a more standard/unobtrusive location for them.

Just my $.02... do with it what you'd like.

I'm seeing the ad panel logged in as a supporter, Just an fyi, realize you're probably working on it, I ain't mad at anybody...

Ads

I know you're working on it BUT

The ads on the left side drive me nuts, especially the moving ones. I understand the need etc. but couldn't you move off he L column?
Please Is it possible to exclude supporters, at least from the moving ones? ALSO is it possible to eliminate the Public Service ads. One of the reasons I enjuy epic is the escape from the constant dribble on how to; prevent fire, drugs are bad, eat better, children arre precious, don't obuse your wife etc. etc. etc. I live my life of many years honestly, safely and without crime, drugs and et.al. Please. I am an adult and my life is in order and nothing the do gooders say means a s$#& to me-period.
I have asked that they be moved to the right (actually before they were activated). Let me see what I can do about them right now.

Logged in as a Supporter and I can see them, on the left. Also ALL (usernames, thread links etc.) hyper links appear washed out/lighter. It is ugly, make it go away.

I thought these ads were going to be sport-related? I really do not need an iPhone. Why is there also a Universal Sports icon in the upper right of the window?
Terry, you are definitely on my list! It is my job to help get you and the other sponsors the kind of capabilities that you rightly have earned. Unfortunately, I've not been able to devote the time to it that it requires, but I will launch a discussion in the Loge Seats shortly, and I trust that you'll participate there.

Please forgive me for the delay in getting this done.
