On top of a "run"?.... I'm probably thinking where is the powder, I've got to get off this damn run and into the trees.

I often hear Tom Petty's "Free Fallin" in my head as I start down.

My mind'e eye is usually bloodshot as all hell while I'm skiing... So I might be thinking about the waffle house mid-mtn or singing some Hendrix... It really depends...

I try to just savor the moment, maybe a quick thanks that I am able to be here, doing this, right now, and then go, living for the moment as much as I can. Zen-ski?

When I stare down at the gnarly terrain below I say to myself.....4x4. Once I am in I can choose 4 High or 4 Low, depending on the condition of the snow.

Great thread Richie, as always.

At the top, I am thinking of the line and the choices it offeres.

Once I start down, my total attention is on finessing rhe snowpack. On each turn I am feeling for any slippage, indicating sliding snow, and making a quick peek back at the buffalo. between turns I am scouting for the next safety zone, in case I have to get off it.

I never think of the skiing -- my body takes care of that.
