30MPH + Pavement = OUCH!

My 12 year old daughter lived up to my screen name this weekend. She was racing the last lap of a circuit race this weekend going into a downhill 90 degree turn at around 30 mph when the kid in front of her crashed exiting the turn. With the whole pack on her inside she had no where to go except down. Not exactly what you want to have happen the weekend before you leave for the Junior Road Nationals. Fortunately she escaped with only some roadrash and a shredded kit. Her bike only suffered some torn tape and a rip on her seat.

I opened this thread with one eye closed fearing the worse (having been in too many bad cycling accidents). Not bad at all, and she looks to be handling it like a champ.

I hate it when that happens. I hope they managed to scrub all the dirt out of that rash. Those little plastic scrub brushes they have emerge work wonders.

Holy moses!
Glad she's alright. Very impressive attitude in that girl. You know, she's gonna smoke you on the bike some day?

She already smokes her mom in the Cat 4 races. I figure I have one more year before she does the same to me.

Poor baby. I hope little Miss Roadrash heals quickly and it's good to hear that it is a short list of troubles. Good luck at the Nats.

Does she ski?

Wowza! I'm so glad she's okay! You know, for some reason I still have a hard time grasping kids doing bike racing. Don't ask me why, heck I coach kids ski racing. I saw a kid with two guys fly by me going the other direction last week and was just in wonder, wished I could have turned around and kept up. You should post some pics of Miss Roadrash on her bike one of these days.

She does. She has been three times now and loves it. Blue Sky Basin is her favorite place on earth. We are planning a trip after New Years (she will get to extend her vacation) to either CO or Utah, depending on where the flights are cheap and the snow deep.

OK, here are some. This is from the a race this weekend (they raced 6 races in four days)

This is from the Junior Nationals Road Race last year in Seven Springs, PA near the top of a 1 mile climb that was very nasty. Notice one of her teammates running up the hill encouraging her.

This is at the very velodrome where I acquired my screen name when I hit the wall at the top of the banking in one turn and left most of my right side skin on the track as I slid to the bottom.:

90 degree turn at 30 mph?

A downhill left. People were hitting the curb exiting the turn all day. My daughter slid into the storm drain after she went down and the EMT had to pull her out. They put a bunch of straw bail in the corner after that wreck.

Thanks for posting the pics of her up on the bike, she looks like she's going to be one hell of a contender as she gets older.

The kids in our club are amazing. We have a 13 year old girl that has been smoking the women in the Cat 3/4 races and a 14 year boy that won a cat 4 race this weekend in a solo breakaway.

Wow. I'd be smoked in a CAT 4 race. I'm slow.
