Arcteryx was ridiculously expensive from the get-go (the huge price sort of caught people's attention, possibly leading to the popularity), they didn't raise the price of the product with added market share... Same with cloudveil. They made the best (you could say they invented the category) Soft Shells, then moved into more traditional outerwear, but they were always expensive.

Norrona, 66* North, Ground, Giv, Nau, Eider.
The reality for 99.999% of Alpine skiers is... you aren't going to die from exposure or hypothermia. You can save $$$ if you want to on clothing, it won't get you hurt.
