The new rage !!!!!

The new rage with the park rats now seems to be outfitting themselves with retro one piece suits. The brighter the better. I noticed some of the really good park skiers have donned them. My Son and some of his friends have hit the consignment and thrift shops and got some nice neon suits for as little as $6. Gaper suits as they are now known. The movement is on so hold on to those old one piece suits men and ladies. There still may be some value in them.

About 6 years ago a bunch of the female snowboarders at my old mountain went out and bought old fashion stretch ski pants. Being a mature 40-something father I didn't notice, but a bunch of people pointed out how great they looked and how much they missed stretch ski pants.

Some friends of my kid were "retro skiing". That means that you find your parent's skis from the early '80s, tune them up and take them out. The more awful the ski, the better.

I don't get it.

Heh, heh, at least now they won't have to pull up their oversized pants every few seconds.

Frankly, this kind of silliness is universal. When we were young we did silly things that raised our parent's eyebrows. Now we are the older generation with the raised eyebrows. As long as there is no harm done, live and let live, I say.

'bout time.

Now maybe I can get more than a buck for that million dollar Degree 7 suit that's been hanging in the garage for years.

C'mon Rio, you think I'm buying that you didn't notice? I'm a mature 40-something father myself and I sure would. OK, maybe I overstated the mature part.

I'm sure your friend will be able to sell them to NBC when they do a behind the scenes television movie about the making of this movie.

Greg Tufflemire swapped outfits with some guy before a contest not too long ago and I think that sparked the retro thing.

Pair those with a "softshell" jacket and you won't even be noticed much.

I'm holding out for
- Leopard pattern and print
- Nils girls
- Pom-poms the size of dino eggs.

And then, the almost inevitable rapid slide into pink, yellow and lime, hahahahhaha!

Scalce, Actually Mark mentioned Tuffelmyer's outfit as he was there. He and my Son showed up at the condo in Silverthorn a few weeks ago and modeled the new/used duds. I was too embarassed to tell them I had a nice Powderline Goretex one piece hanging in the closet that was a close match. They're really bummed right now cause it's been too warm in Steamboat for them to be in one piece suits.

My opinion, I think it's great. Sure beats seeing the cracks of their asses and pants down around the knees.

I wouldn't wear that neon shyte when it was "in," no doubt I'd probably wear it now for sport. Hell, Plake, Schmidt, Hattrup and Murray Ball look pretty slick on snow in Blizzard of Aaaaaahhhs, maybe that's what inspired Tufflemire?

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that I think a comeback for stretch pants would be absolutely fantastic. As long as it was woman only thing. Somehow I just can't see myself in my old Obermyer bell bottom stretch pants.

Gonz, You mean to tell me you never had a onepiece? Not even for powder days? How about the stretch pants thing?
nope. during the "neon era," I usually wore a CB anorak in a very dull grey, and some cheap nylon rainpants (dark navy blue) with duct tape over the rips, tears, etc. under the rainpants I wore long underwear and fleece pants. never had a one-piece, never had stretch stuff. too poor, I guess... or too numb to what's "in."

PREDICTION:

A return to popularity of women's stretch pants = more skier days in the over 35 men's grouping!

Who is Mark?

This is not one piece, I may have to dig it out from the "long lost memoryies" collectionis, but is it retro enough?
I'm definitely not a girl

Scalce, Mark is my kids roomie, who is awesome in the pipe and slopestyle. Just missed the XGames and finished 17th at the US Open in Vail last month. He's moving up in the ranks as is my Son. They will both be on The Mavricks, Steamboats freeride team next year. As long as they stay healthy that is.

To which pants are you referring? Could it be "ryan's famous pants?"

Post picture here please.......

I kinda hope the bandana pattern powder shirts from the 70s come back in style.

I actually had one in green. Wore it as late at the mid 80s with blue bib-style pants, a 6" wide necktie from the '60s, big round mirror sunglasses, and a Garfield "Let's Party" hat. Gotta love them string daze.

Hmm. I'd have to say Tuff looks better in that 20 year old no name el cheapo 1-piece than the other two in their thousand-buck gangsta wannabe costumes. Fart bag: now there's the pot calling the kettle black. If that's a fart bag, are those other outfits diaper bags? Oops, sorry for the lapse into toilet humour, folks. Hope nobody's reading this over breakfast. And how about those race bibs? Recycled from those things that chubby Wal-Mart "associates" don? Those outfits kill me!

Actually, it's a Rip Curl one piece.
