^ a squeaky clean gear whore? You would know better than we would!
64 VW
67 Mustang
74 Sonett
90 Corolla
94 S-10
00 F-150
02 Sentra
05 Silverado

17 pairs of skis that I've owned. But... I went for about 10 years just demoing skis. That was when it was cheap, new boards/fresh tune, every time out!

5 pairs of boots

1 snowboard and boots

32 years skiing....60 more to go!

For some reason the wife always owns the cars I drive and vice versa, so.....

Cars I've owned (wife driven):
'96 Toyota Corolla XLi estate (I guess you call that a wagon)
'99 Toyota Avensis estate

Cars I've driven ("my" cars - wife owned):
'86 Toyota Corolla GL Sun
'90 Toyota Carina II XLi (still driving this every day)

Skis:

7 pairs (4 pairs current)

Whichever way you look at it, the skis win.

Dashboard shift? Mine was '82.

I'll allow Propulse binding credit for that one, mounted on a reverse-taper ski.

That's obvious: clean and unfilthy.

So the obvious follow-on thread is: have you owned more skis than the number of women (or men) you've slept with?

I must have forgotten my SCXs! Make that 5 pairs of telemark skis. SCX was my ski for much longer than any other. From '97 until mid-season last year. I'd still be using them but I've given up on carving and have joined the rotary club.

This is a fun thread or depressing if you think of the money spent. heres my stuff from 1986 on when i started skiing:
Vehicles: disposition:
1986 Iroc Z traded
1987 Chevy van sold
1987 Nissan 4*4 truck traded
1991 Nissan Maxima traded
1994 Chevy 4*4 traded
1985 Yamaha FZ 750 sold
1991 Chevy van died
1995 Chevy van traded
1989 chevy van given away then died
1998 Chevy truck traded
2002 Chevy truck traded
2007 chevy truck present work vehicle
1992 Honda VFR having fun with
1997 Toyota Rav 4 on life support, trying for 1 more inspection

Skiis:
Head given away
K2 unlimited V.O. broke
Blizzard SL given away
Atomic Arcs storage
Rossi 7sk broke
K2 four sold
Elan SCX broke 2 pairs
Elan SCX made into a ladder
Volkl V3 broke
Rossi Viper broke
Line darksides still have, would not break
Dynastar SC gave away
Dynastar course 68 in quiver
Head big things? gave away
Elan M12 gave away
Volkl P50 broke
Volkl AC4 in quiver still trying to break
Atomic SL11 in quiver
Head I slalom in quiver
K2 P.E. in quiver

Have stuck with chevy's as my work vehicle, as for the skiis have usually went with something cheap as I have a tendency to break them. Usually lost money on vehicles Iroc Z not a good choice for new england, but can usually get enough time on skiis before they break to justify it. Those Line Darksides are the most resiliant thing I have ever skied, AC 4's a close 2nd so far.

Phil, this has been a fun thread I finally got my lists together. Skis win, but not by much.

Cars from '79 to present:
  • ’76 Honda Accord
  • ’77 Honda Accord
  • ’81 Mazda RX-7
  • ’90 Plymouth Laser Turbo
  • ’79 Chevy Van
  • ’93 Mazda RX-7
  • ’95 Subaru SVX
  • ’87 Porsche Carerra
  • ’01 Subaru Legacy Outback
  • ’05 Subaru Legacy GT
  • ’05 Subaru STi
  • ’08 Infiniti G35
Skis from '74 to present. Fourteen year gap between 2 and 3

  • Fischer red and white with rounded tip c.74
  • Hart Freestyle
  • K2 KV Comp
  • K2 Four
  • Salomon XScream
  • Salomon Crossmax 9
  • Salomon Teneighty
  • Salomon 2V race room
  • Salomon Pocket Rocket
  • Volant Chubb V2
  • Volant FB
  • Rossignol Scratch BC
  • Bluehouse District
  • K2 Public Enemy
  • K2 Cabrawler

Relationships between skis and cars:
    • Once I had a car I couldn’t afford to ski much
    • Once I had a car and my own place I couldn’t afford to ski at all
    • Fourteen years later I had the wherewithal to start skiing again
    • Fourteen years after that (now) I traded in my car for something with a lower payment so I could still afford to ski

Ha...... and in which direction is this ratio moving?
Ah, in my case purely static on one end, and steeper and steeper on the other. Maybe some correlation there.
As the future number of women I've slept with tends to one, I have found that I have 2 people to purchase skis for, but in the last 2 years I have sold 2 pairs of my skis, and bought one pair for her... There's something not quite right there...
Selling skis is fun too. Not as much fun as buying them, but still...
Hmpf...
If I hadn't bought so many skis for ex-girlfriends (1x1), ex-wives(1x4skis) and sons(2x4skis)...relative bindings, boots and ancillary equipment (clothes, helmets, googles, etc)...
My own list of both items (skis and cars) could have been much longer!
As for the other question, I'm static on the skis end...
Suffice it to say that I own more skis currently than I ever have owned cars.

Agreed.

That tandem ski project is still waiting, you know.
cars (since1978):

scout, f150, f100, e350, some ford station wagon, GL, f350, f150, V50

skis (same time frame):

at least 50 pair.

...

ok I'll bite....
I'm getting there with my skiing...1 lesson from 83' to 88'..then began to read a little;-)...and fell in love with it, mountains, & the late-Fall/Winter/early-Spring season.
1972-75 Was QA person(aka tester) at a BMW outlet in upstate NY..in addition to bartending and re-learning a little math...so I enjoy man's endeavors towards transportation...but not the exec's love of big oil's fossil fuels. Love toying around both...a) in the woods in a 4WD and b) with the design phase of electric/hybrid/hydrogen auto technology...
You didn't mention mountain-biking or canoeing(ww/flat-touring)...
This could be a 4-way game with me.....
skiing
automobiles
mountain bikes
canoes

Cars, and the years they were bought/sold:
1955 Ford F100 1984/1988 (hot rod project)
1955 VW Beetle 1970/1972 (first car, paid $100 for it)
1966 Datsun 1600 1972/1975
1969 Camaro 350SS 1974/1976
1971 VW Type 3 1975/1979
1971 VW Super Beetle 2000- (current project)
1980 Toyota Corolla 1980/1986
1984 Honda Accord 1984/1988
1985 Chevy Blazer 1996/1998 (another project)
1986 Honda CRX 1986/1993
1990 Honda Accord 1990/1996
1993 Toyota truck 1993/1998
1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 1996/2002
1998 Honda CRV 1998/1999 (hated it)
1999 Ford Explorer 2003-
2000 Volvo S70 2000-
2004 Volvo XC70 2004-

That was a fun drive down memory lane, I hadn't even thought about some of those cars in many years.

Skis-

Head Standards, gave to a friend
Rossi Stratos, sold
Rossi Rocs, stolen
replacement Rocs, sold
Olin Mk 4, gave to little brother
Kazama, ???
Hexcel Comps, still use them on "retro day"
Dynastar SC, broke them and threw them out
Dynastar Max Zero, still have them
Rossi Bandit XX, still have
K2 Apache Crossfire, still have
Atomic Nomad Crimson, still have

The chronological gap in skis from the late 70's through the early 90's is easily explainable, I divorced that bitch.
