L7, many years ago I broke my L1 vertebra (on a motorbike accident).
The next winter I started skiing with a waist belt,
a motocross model with plastic armour on the back.
It was bulky but helped.
and selling skiing lumbar belts models derived from their motorbike protection line.
These models too have armour along the spine.
There are models covering just the lumbar area, up to totally protecting your spine from neck to...bottom.
Italian DH racers started to use those a few years back, the other teams compalined on the ground that, the protection was unfair, since was inducing a false feeling of safety to the racer, making him take more risks and look for speed ( it doesn't sound like the argument against helmets, is it?) thus giving an unfair advantage to our Dhillers...
Anyay, is this kind of lumbar belts you're looking for?
PS, I've stopped using it, feeling that my back is strong enough again to "stand for itself". Still, every now and then, I'm tempted to wear the belt.[ October 30, 2003, 04:30 AM: Message edited by: Matteo ]
