I talked to Dr. Cunningham a bit about this article on Friday and he said that Dr. Rosenburg does not do the double bundle and that it was Dr. Fu who is the real pioneer of it here in the States.
Not sure what to think, but felt very comfortable with Dr. Cunningham and feel that the double bundle appears to be the most logical way to go as long as the surgeon has the skill.
Dr. Cunningham says that he has done close to 100 double bundles in the last year and a half with only 1 full retear and 1 partial (1 of 2 bundle) retear. He says that with males, he does a 8 mm graft and 7 mm graft that are placed exactly where your original ligaments were. The typical single bundle graft is 10 mm that goes close to where the longer of the two cords were, but is cheated towards the shorter cord location.
Not enough time has passed to know if there are long term benefits (i.e. less arthritis), but he feels that the recovery is quicker saying that he told people a min of 6 months before skiing on single bundle repairs and only 4-4.5 min on double bundle.
I am shooting for Nov 19 for my surgery.
