I mean goddamn! It is just another lift that is a mere 11 minute ride. Why would any skier be negative about another lift that doubles your terrain access and restaurant choices in 11 minutes?
I've seen considerably different weather on the SAME mountain at various times. Going accross to the other would be a needless crapshoot.
I typically don't do "runs", and enjoy the trees and bowls on both, although the run-out's on Whistler tend to get a bit tedious.
It's not being negative to question the point of it, but just imagine a lift up to Flute, which would give you even more potential for backcountry??!!. This gives you exactly what??
