let the games begin....Plans for 08/09 - Page 2

No trips planned yet.

But I finish my Master's in 4 weeks. With a drop of luck, I'll be more financially capable and have more free time for traveling by next winter.

That was the whole point anyway, but those plans started in '07. My current lifestyle/job doesn't allow for many trips. I had to change all that first. Anyone else a few beats behind the herd?

Train would be a cool way to go for sure. Regarding the tickets to MT, did you try booking Wednesday to Wed,? A lot of time, those are the cheapest times. Don't always go through the travel sites, try going through the airlines directly.

I'd rather get where I'm going, and do what I'm going to do. Maybe when I can manage to take 2-3 weeks at a time instead of 6-8 days, I'll feel differently...

I'm hoping the train from MN to MT wouldn't be more than a day. I hear you on the vacation thing - I'm the sole person in my group doing my job, so I have kinda limited time to be out of the office.

Yeah - I tried tons of options. I was looking in late Feb/early March, and things went from about $400 round trip to about $750 round trip no matter how I played it. Seems you need to take a gamble and go early or very late. We did okay this year - the coverage at Moonlight Basin was pretty good this year in mid-December. Better than January '07... Unfortunately, we didn't make it back for a second round - money was a little short, and my wife's job was in question. No biggie though. My back was a mess most of the winter. I was trying to NOT get too hooked on Vicodin.

March 4-11 Steamboat

At least this keeps me going for the meantime.
Damn Finndog, this could get expensive. I hear the airlines are going to charge a double-fee for checking in Chubbs.

Last season;

1 trip to Banff
2 trips to Utah
1 trip to Colorado
1 trip to Oregon
2 trips to Vermont

This season;

3 trips to Utah
3 trips to Colorado
1 trip to Tahoe
1 (pending) trip to Oregon

Next year... I'll decide 3 weeks in advance as usual.

I don't know if a lot of people know about this site, but check out http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch for pretty good travel pricing. The nice thing is, if you go to their "month-long search", you can enter how many days you want to travel for, and look at an entire month for the lowest price for that length of trip within that month. It makes it really easy to find good opportunities. I find that this far out, there's not much advantage to Wed-to-Wed vs. Sat-to-Sat, but that may change as the dates get closer.

You can't actually book through that site, but it gives instructions on how to book through the airline if you find a fare you like.

Sorry if the site's known to everyone already, but it's become my first line of attack when I need to travel.

I'll be spending next year at either Jackson, Alta, or Snowbird, whichever one I can find a decent job/place to live. I will OF COURSE be spending may-july skiing the high up stuff in colorado.

Psyched.

Only thing that makes me not want to do Jackson is that I've heard its ungodly expensive to live there.

The biggest thing that makes me not want to live in SLC is commuting a bit farther to ski/work.

I'm sure wherever I end up it won't suck too bad.

Our plans are simple. My wife and I bought season passes to Mt. Snow. Guess what we'll be doing on 90% of the Sundays from November to April?
