Last season when I was following my son down a hill, I would resort to arcing a wide path, making tight turns in between spending most of my time skiing perpendicular to the fall line. He was in a wedge making small turns and going more straight down, but not as fast. When line choice was not sufficient to stay behind him, I would add in some skidding.
