Skier J don't think so. Between the two pictures there are some 16-20 years (anyone, please correct or confirm).
Back then helmets were unknown in both GS and SL events.
Racers started to wear helmets during GS events some 10 years later (1992 or so).

I had a doubt looking at Hermann's picture (I was not sure whether he was skiing a SG or a GS, had to think a bit, despite the filename...), not at Stenmark.
Speeds have also increased a lot, of course the two skiers were not entering (or exiting) the same turn in the same event (displaced only in time) and the same course set, still, Maier is far from the gate, while Stenmark is so close to it.
