There is still snow on the Alps outside the glaciers

A spin-off to the "Has spring come early to the Alps" thread

I was watching, yesterday, the Giro d'Italia.
The racers were cycling around in the Dolomites and the television images were showing snow patches here and there on the higher Alpine passes (Fedaia, near the Marmolada peak) and the reporters were communicating that it was still cold out there.
I was really surprised to see snow around so late in the spring, proof that it has been an unusually ( for the past years trend) cold and snow-rich late winter/early spring.

And for those who were wondering where I've been...well, I was sick (as in physically ill, not sick of Epic).
Cheers to all.

Hope you are feeling better...

From my window in town (Bourg St. Maurice), I can see some patches starting about 1800 meters on the face of Arc 1600 (where they did make some snow during the year) and quite a bit more between some of the rocks a bit higher up...

Thank you for inquiring. Alas not much (I'm still feeble, so feeble in fact that my GP has ordered me home for the whole of this week, and maybe even the next one if my health will not improve)

And today the landscape is the same in the Plan de Corones/Kronplatz area,
BTW the side of the road there was even a representative from the local instructors team in their full attire (w/ skis on...)

Matteo, I've been away for a while. What's up, you OK?

Ciao Prickly. Well, not really. I've much been worse, but I've been a lot better too.
I've been away in a hospital all of last week. I'm home on sick leave this week and, depending on my conditions, could be ordered home by the doc next week too.
In May, between sick leave and Hospital I've been away (from work, from Epic, from life in general) for a grand three weeks. And I'm not done, yet.

Giro is being watched here too
tomorrow over the Gavia (2600metres) and the Mortirolo (2200metres?) Looking forward to see the snow

In Sölden they still have 2.5metres of snow on the glacier... though no skiing no more
