I got a call last night from a friend of mine. He was approached by another friend of ours about possibly buying his business (a small ski shop). It involves relatively little investment. The seller is just looking get out of the ski business since he has other projects going on that require his attention. My friend and I talked a bit about what it would take to make it work and we have some good ideas. Neither one of us is looking to get rich with this. The hope would be that at the end of the season we both have some extra cash in our pocket or at least fund our own hobby. We both have experience in the business. I spent 9 years working in the ski department of a local sporting goods store and when I left I was heavily involved with all aspects of the business including the purchasing, sales, and service. My friend has also worked part time for the last 10 years doing tune ups at the same shop we are considering buying. I think it would help that my would-be partner currently works in advertising and marketing so he know how to get the word out. Am I looking at this the wrong way or might this actually work?
