Snow on the Way for NE?

Here's the very latest MRG snow forecast from Jim Rxxxxmer!

Hope this is a glimpse of things to come! Our plan is to open as early as Mother Nature allows after Thanksgiving.

Rxxxmer....Tuesday....October 29, 2002- 8-14" northern Mountains, 3-6" central and southern mountains by Saturday

As we were discussing last week, we are going into a weather pattern that has, and will continue to feature below normal temperatures with several chances for at least some light snow. An early start to the ski season should be the rule for parts of New England.

Over the next 24 hours, a weak storm system may bring a few inches of snow to southern most Vermont ski resorts. Another
weak storm system will produce some light snow across all of Vermont on Friday into Saturday a.m. Anywhere from 3-6" should fall across most ski areas by Saturday a.m. The storm will deepen in the Gulf of Maine and usher in some of the coldest early November air in recent memory. With the lakes being so warm, some of the northern mountains could see 8-14" by later in the weekend. This would again favor Jay Peak, Stowe and possibly Burke Mountain.

The map here shows dark blue--near record breaking cold air by Saturday-Sunday with temps above 3000 feet falling into the 5-10 degree range and in the teens and 20's at the low levels. The circular motion of this air should keep clouds and moisture circulating around the Atlantic storm well into Saturday night. Notice the white wind barbs and how they originate over eastern Quebec and Maine and circulate back into Vermont. This moisture means the possibility for some heavy mountain snows early this weekend, especially in northern areas. Some parts of New Hampshire and Maine may see 1-2 feet.

We will be gone until Thursday or Friday and should have an update by then

I'm heading up to Killington this weekend for my first turns of the year. Just picked up a pair of last years G4's at a swap and can't wait to test them out. Who knows I might even get to ski them in the snow they were built for.

Pray for snow!
