A-Basin & Loveland; kicks on 6

It’s great reading/viewing the TR’s still coming in from a number of folks who are trying to keep the season going…here’s another one along with the hope for more snow

Betsy, cgeib and I enjoyed some great skiing along the Highway 6 lifts that are still open and serving up great snow and on occasion, winter conditions. The following captures from April 19 & 25 at ‘the Legend’ and April 26 on the ‘Horseshoe’. The three of us were also fortunate meeting up with some new skiing friends Paul introduced us to over the weekend including; rbrooks, William Tell & Mac [all great guys and passionate skiers].

A little sequence called; “I try to sneak up behind cgeib on the Pali side”:

Betsy 'boots on’ under the A-Frame's history wall:

Mac, Betsy & cgeib; winter conditions at Loveland :

Winter comes in hard as William Tell makes some turns:

Schweeet! Keep the season going

I was up at Loveland yesterday. It was great skiing.

I see one of my Winter Park co-workers was sitting behind Mac. I choose instead to blend in and wear an old Loveland employee one. I chatted and shared a few beers at the end of the day with a big group of blended ski schools. We got caught up on what everyone was up to and debated various aspects of PSIA.

...more kicks on 6

Looking NE at the top of Loveland’s chair 4:

I find shadowing cgeib is not an easy task:

Betsy heads over the edge [Loveland's chair 9 below]:

Way up there Mac finds a nice field of new snow:

Weather turns on Mac's run:

Loveland's 4 looking Southwest:

Betsy deals with the changing weather and conditions:

Betsy and cgeib praise the A-Basin sun:

Mac beside Lovelands chair 4:

Betsy:

Betsy and cgeib lead the way up chair 4 for more snow:

I have never skied with a better all mountain all anything skier than Chris [Betsy and some strangers collect to watch him rip from below]:

Yup...the snow is good!:

Nothing says a good day skiing without a trip over to the Boatyard for dinner [I dine with cgeib, Tsavo, Betsy]

Continued good skiing for all

guess i need to invest in a camera...i've been stretching the last 2 weekends (boilerplate at Rose/Sierra, soft-serve at Alpine and Sugarbowl), with 2 more official weekends to go. one will be with everybody's fav NYCer Brkln, so there should be some pix.

as for Colo, when's "The Legend" close?

i've got some Southwest creds and could be convinced to swing out for a quickie late May...

Wowee, Don, looks like y'all had some good fun! Wish I could sneak away for a dose of spring skiing.

Alas, it's heavy-duty biking (and pollen) season out here, so the funny tan lines from skiing are morphing into the even stranger tan lines from being on a bicycle for hours at a spell.

But keep the reports - and the pictures - coming!

A-Basin never thawed on Saturday and was pretty crusty knarly most places. On Sunday the North Pole chutes were OK by noon, and Montezuma Bowl was great in the afternoon. I'll be on a plane next weekend, but next Tuesday we'll ski closing day at Niseko Grand Hirafu near Sapporo, Japan.

Awesome pics Don. Can't wait to get out there.: May 12th will officially be my first day skiing zee Basin as a Colorado resident.: Why would I unpack and find a job my first full day living in Denver when there's a perfectly good mountain 45 minutes away?:

Basin had good snow both Sat and Sun, just had to look hard. Cornice and Pali Spine to Pali Face was very good on Saturday. Zuma's steep lines also warmed up nicley on Sunday, but they are now closed not sure if they will reopen or not (prob not). Lower East Wall and Land of ThHe Giants were fine both days and West Wall/Slalom warmed up nicely on SUnday. Should still some very good sking there for a few more weeks. Enjoy

Are you saving some snow for me?
Landing in Summit County May 9th!

Okay, Don, I promised that if you put up the photos, I'd put up a post. You guys were great hosts at Loveland. I'd have never explored all that powder without y'all leading the way. We'll see you next year for sure.

Don't worry TC, there's still lots of snow up there. Warm now, but a few more inches on Thursday. Base still above 60 inches.
