Of course they should change.

I'll be riding at Loveland for the first time this season on Sunday. I expect I will be partaking a few cold ones with former co-workers in the Rat Cellar after the lifts stop spinning. It will be good to see the old gang again and trade sea stories.

Yeah.. I'll be up at Breck and A-basin this weekend. Too bad A-basin closes on June 8th. Seems like they could stay open into July. I guess it just isn't economical.

A-Basin is a cool scene, with a vibe all its own, and great terrain and snow. A-Basin is also open for another 6 weeks - of which we'll take ample advantage.

But, if you can catch a final weekend at a major Colordao resort, with huge terrain, like Breck, and likely thin crowds, why not?

Went to Abasin on Sunday 4/20. Warm but pretty windy. Especially at the top.

Great coverage. Only place that looked a little rocky was the trail underneath the main lift from the bottom.

Hard pack in the morning on the ungroomed trails. Groomers were pretty good. Snow conditions were better at the top, probably because it didn't Ice up the night before. Good chance to grab a beer until the snow softened up.

In the afternoon, the bottom half of the mountain got softer, but not real slushy.

The beach was its usual craziness.

I heard through the grapevine there was going to be a big 420 celebration there to celebrate 4/20 on Sunday. I decided to pass on the A-Basin that day.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I've skied A-Basin previously in May. The top half of the mountain was pretty decent, but the bottom half was mash potatos most of the day.

My question is; what's usually the sweet spot for conditions (e.g. 10 AM to 1 PM, etc.)?

depends on the temp. If near 32 at 5am (check web site snow report) then ski west wall early when lifts open, most of MT soft by 10 am, Pali stays longer as it is north facing, so usually good until about 2-3pm. If very cold at 5am, then won't soften for another hour or so depending on cloud cover, angle of slope etc. General rule of thumb for me is 10am to 2pm.
