BIG ski SUV - Page 16

Problem Solved

It's a Jeep = You'll like it.
It's a Liberty = She'll like it
64.6 cubic feet cargo space = Ski gear will like it.
Wait for CRD = The environment will like it.

whoever figures out the formula for creating a fuel efficient SUV with little compromises in space and towing capability(I know, an oxymoron/paradox) will make a fortune in the US market especially with GM getting out of the market.

there is a market for such a vehicle. the US likes a 4 or 5 door vehicle with alot of versatilty. I like the idea of a bigger Subaru Forrester that gets 30 plus MPG. Maybe a ruggadized Minivan-the Tribeca could have been that vehicle if it got better gas mileage. I even like the form factor of the new Honda CRV, Nissan Rogue and Murano and if these vehicles could manage 30 plus mpg, it'd be a slam dunk.

like it or not, us American like our big vehicles with more capability than we may ever use. we like faux toughness and faux versatility. never mind that the majority of the big SUV's out there are basically neutered, tall station wagon people carriers sitting on car frames. what i can't understand is why all the car manufacturers have standardized on 16-18 mpg as the average.

even with gas approaching 4.50 to 5.00 a gallon, I still see lots of SUV's on the road this past weekend. it;s going to take 6.00 or more a gallon gas for consumers to change their habits.

BAJA 500 - Lowly H3 wins stock class

http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/sto...-baja-500.html

Honda almost pulled it off, but trophys aren't awarded to almost.

An interesting side note-

Toyota team runs GM-powered Tundra in Baja 500

The famous Baja 500 begins today in Ensenada, CA, and one of the more interesting dirt racers discovered by our friend Mike Levine at Pickuptrucks.com is the Tundra D-Cab PreRunner from TForce Motorsports. It looks good, has ridiculously huge King off-road racing shocks, and it's owned by former Indy 500 champ Danny Sullivan, but that's not what makes this rally racer unique. Power for the PreRunner comes from none other than GM's LS2 small-block. TForce crew member Matt Riggle told Levine that the team chose the 375-hp, 400 lb-ft powerplant because of its reliability, as well as its ability to run on regular Pemex gas that's much cheaper than facing fuel.

For the record, Toyota does not sponsor team TForce or its hopped-up PreRunner, but you can imagine that choosing a GM engine over one by Toyota because of reliability isn't exactly what the folks in Aichi, Japan like hearing.

Why the heck would they even call it a Toyota if they arent getting Toyota backing? Do they have a Toyota dealership or something?

Maybe because the body is a Toyota Tundra.

No, what I mean is why go and put a "body" (most if not all of it is just FRP reproductions made to resemble the prod vehicle) of a Toy if its really a Chevy.

Drove some sweet SUVs this week. We're dealing, should have an answer by the weekend....they are letting us trade in the H3 early. For those of you who have not tried a new loaded Escalade...try it Mikey you'll like it.

I guess when GM reports Escalade sales numbers next month we'll know where the one went

An ugly vehicle that costs $60,000 and gets 12 mpg? What's not to like?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Although a Jeep man, I cant argue the fact that the Escalade is a very nice looking truck, maybe the nicest looking IMHO.

Eye of the beholder, indeed. Every time I see one of those monstrosities I gag. From my perspective they are among the most ugly, useless, and downright wasteful things on the road.

If you're not a leadfoot, you'll get close to 20 on the highway. NYC parking - not so fun. Make your own spots ... the city version of rope poaching.

I hope they're not out of white ones:

:Seriously though, enjoy your new ride. I'd be sure to get the towing package and look at those portable or rental trailers for the dirtier Home Depot shopping.

Got a boat yet?:

The funniest part of this thread is that Richie doesn't know that most of the beholders see Escalade, Hummer, etc. from your perspective.

"I've gotten a lot of compliments on the Hummer, but it's too small..."
Could it be hybrid? The new Escalade Hybrid is expected to post fuel economy of 18 city/22 highway, as opposed to the gas version’s 12 city/18 highway. It combines an electrically variable transmission, 300-volt nickel metal hydride battery pack, a 6.0-liter V8 332 horsepower 367 pound-feet of torque gasoline engine that runs on premium fuel. Cylinder deactivation, is used to shut down four of the eight cylinders when less power is needed.

My guess is it would take many years for the increased fuel efficiency to pay off the price premium of that model, but hey, you too could be a green eco-groovy SUV driver.

This relatively boxy vehicle is always pictured against curved buildings or bridges. Notice the wet pavement to emphasize its off-road capability.

I can't list all the vehicles I'd buy before an Escalade.

And I'm even a GM man. Heck, I built my '72 K5 Blazer. Ironically, my crate motor got the same mileage as a factory-built escalade.

(even the hybrid version doesn't crack 25... what a joke.)

I haven't read every post in this thread, so forgive me if its already been said, but who in the East (or anywhere for that matter) would pick their car solely for skiing. I'm willing to bet that skiing makes no more than 5-10% of most easterners driving... most likely much less. To get such a gas guzzler to accommodate <5% of driving is pointless. They make very good roof racks these days that can carry your cargo for a fraction of what you're going to pay for that full size SUV.

Richie Rich... this big vehicle you want is nothing more than a status symbol. Just come out and say it and end this thread.

Jay: don't hate the player, hate the game. I never said I am or want to be a ski bum. If I was a trust fund baby, then perhaps I would spend 75%of my life just skiing around the world, but since I want a future and one with all its rewards, in every form, no can do bub.

Joe: For me its convenience, for her its status. If you saw my Jeeps you would undertand. But thats not to say I dont enjoy driving around in big luxury SUV.

1. RR can drive whatever he wants, his choice. Altough, I would get either an Avalanche, Ridgeline or (for me) a Subaru Baja for the same "type" of vehicle and pocket the difference in $$ from the Caddy. That buys a LOT of ski days and gear.

2. Anyone who posts about buying (what can be perceived as) a socially irresponsible vehicle is trying to make a statement and is opening themselves up to this type of criticism. But lets make sure it is not personal attacks and lets keep it PG-13.

Bringing World Cup caliber ski equipment and service to all skiers - from pro ski racers to everyday all mountain skiers and into the...

Good to know I can say what I really think about other people's opinions and buying habits now. It will come in useful in the future.

Inquired about those. Late summer the Hybrid comes out and they will $10k more, and will not be leasable. The money I would save in fuel would not offset the $10k anyway. They are also coming out with a V version in the late fall that will suck down even more fuel than the standard truck and will cost $125k!

Currently you can get an Escalade for as little as $57k and as much as $85k for a Platinum edition...almost $30k in options. Most of the ones you see on the road are about $65k-70k.
