Winter Park/Mary Jane April 12, 13

Wow, what a great weekend.

Sat. was cold but WP/MJ was deserted. No lift lines. I had my end-of-season review and celebrated by going riding.

It was windy at the top of the Panoramic but nice once you got off the ridge line. I found tons of untracked knee deep powder down in the bowl. Too much fun.

My face got rather cold from the wind so I went over to the Eagle Wind area. Tons of untracked in the trees. Just woohoo riding. The bumps under the lift at the bottom were fun. I heard several "nice" and "sweet" comments coming from overhead. The chairs looked to consist mainly of skiers. I've never had anyone ask me to "give them some skin" before. : We pressed the ends of clinched fists together.

The bumps were hero bumps in the AM. They had almost a foot and a half of powder on them. I took off down Outhouse, Columbine, and Engledive. I mainly slayed them but, they did fight back a few times resulting in a cartwheel or two.

Sunday (today) was warm. It was crowded with lift lines even at the Jane. It was warm up at the top of the Panoramic. The snow had settled and was somewhat crusty. I stopped and said good-bye to the terrain for the season and headed down the bowl.

I hung around the Jane for a few runs but needed to go clean out my locker. On the way, I saw a rather muscular guy about 6'3" riding his snowboard only in his tight white BVD's. I did some MA on his riding technique. Nice er, RIDING from what I could see from behind.: I would have followed him down Drunken Frenchman but my legs were a little tired from Sat. (er, Mr. BVD, I will be at Loveland on Sunday if you need someone to ride with).

I saw numerous co-workers in lift-lines, on the slopes, got yelled at from chairlifts, and got to say good-bye to quite a few throughout the day. Pretty sad. The locker room was nearly empty and everyone was packing up too.

Thank you to all my fellow co-workers and the trainers for such a wonderful season. Have a great summer. I'll be seeing some of you at Loveland.

Pictures from Sunday.

powder day in april!!!

I have to agree, I was at WP on the 12th as well and had one of the best powder days of the season. The tree skiing was great open to close. Its a shame all that snow is now going to waste. Can't really blame the resort though, they would be losing money to keep it open longer. There were only about 4,500 people on sat. and a normal weekend is closer to 10,000. No complaints from me though, 2 ft of powder and no lift lines is about as good as it gets and a hell of a way to end the season.
