Then again, you actually believe that lift-served, controlled, and patrolled terrain is real backcountry... just because it says so on some trail map!! Ha, ha, ha....
Ha, Ha, Ha is right! Really original clever post!

Yeah the Mantra is the greatest carver ever! Whatever :

Did you presume that racers live and sleep in their suits?

I'm not fawning over anyone. Trust me on that.

I was just amused that Dug "remembered" some of those comments from back when. You sort of have to admit that some of this is pretty funny coming from someone who walked away from one of the fat ski Meccas of the galaxy and the absolute deep snow epicenter of the planet. Especially since some pretty seriously ripping folks ski there on those fat boards.

Well going off the evidence posted here...

I figured it might be a possibility

Right - remembered.

I can search every post you've made on this forum, and quote them all.

As far as "walking away" from a fat ski mecca; if you love Baker, it's all yours. I've posted my views on Baker, and I'll take any mountain in CO over it. I'd bet a quiver that most people would.

But, you gotta love where you are.

What you consider "seriously ripping folks", is your opinion, and you're entitled to it. But, it's only yours.

The one guy I'd consider "seriously ripping" that we've both skied with is Posaune - the guy's a pleasure to watch. And, he has class.

This thread has nearly everything. :
Not only that, but in six pages, no one has busted out Godwin's law. :

Just posting to let everyone know that I will have to recuse myself from this little thread to go ski powder tomorrow. I'll probably be on fat skis and it is more than likely that at one point during the day I will be on groomers.

The sad (for city folk like me) truth is that the folks that grow up in the mountains can do it all. They're the racers and ex-racers, but they're also the ones who climb, hike backcountry and ski technical lines like it's nothing.

By gum, you're right -- no hits on "nazi."

I know I've said it on TGR, and I think I've said it here, but I don't ski fatties for bottomless pow conditions.

Frankly, I'll ski anything in bottomless pow. 20+ years ago, I used to hike ridges at Val d'Isere with my K2 610 FOs on my shoulder, and it was still probably the best skiing I've ever had.

What I love about my 136mm-wide Praxis, and even my 99mm-wide Bros, is that they make shallower or less beautiful snow feel more like bottomless pow than my skinnier skis ever could.

People still really think that fat skis are made only for powder? Well I'll be damned!

Which is the dark side?

Certain statements in this debate remind me of the silly roadie v. MTBer divide. Which is the dark side?

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering." Yoda to Anakin Skywalker

"Can we all get along?" Rodney King

Oh, and yes, I agree the quotes are whack, but some of the ripostes in the thread were just as whack since we're just talking about sliding on snow...

Skiing is like golf.
Good players play well with any club.
Bad players play bad no matter what club.
They buy all kinds of clubs trying to get better.
It's not the arrow.......it's the Indian.
And I'm deeply offended if a level six Indian is using a level seven arrow!

The widest skis I've ever skied were 75mm. True story.

heh heh, that's funny; didn't someone mention Godwin's Rule way up there somewhere?

Anyway, I must be a heathen cuz the only places I skied this year were Tahoe & Aspen. I've gotta get out more...

I could not imagine skiing on this ski on anything other then a POW day and would avoid the groomed like the plague. I had always heard how versatile this ski was and how well it skied the groomed and held an edge.

Bull!!!!!!

Now I am totally convinced that the skiers that sing the virutes of a 105mm waisted Pow ski to be good on groomed is just a ridiculous if i tried to convince them how good my Head i.SL Rd Race Stock slaloms are in 2 feet of POW!

With that said the Monster 88 kills the Gotama on groomed and comes somewhat close to skiing the Pow as well!
Ha-Ha..........

People who spend hours, days, year, honing their technique, one tiny aspect at a time, slay people who just go ski. There's a difference between training and skiing.

You can always spot a racer (or former racer) immediately. Their technique is fluid, flawless, quick, and beautiful.

I'll wager most 15-year-old girls on the Loveland ski team could stomp those who've proclaimed or insinuated their fat-ski prowess on this thread.

Just a point of perspective.
I raced for years and I know plenty of people that have never raced that impress me on skis.

Racing helps, but its not impossible to get good without it or something.

How is it possible that no one's tried a cheesy sex metaphor yet here (like, "skis are like women, it's more fun when you try all different shapes and sizes," etc.)?

Vis. sleds, tobags, saucers, check this out: http://www.madriverrocket.com/

that's cuz nobody likes fat chicks. Fat skis, on the other hand are freakin awesome.
