question about 2-3 year old boots

Thread Starter
I bought a pair of used Salomon X-wave 8s that are a couple of years old and am concerned that the liners are pack out or worn out. :
Should I have them heated up so they mold to my feet?
Is a new liner the way to go? Can you put a different liner in them as long as it is similar? Wouldn't it be difficult to get a 2-3 year old liner specificly for this boot?
I haven't skied them yet and don't have a problem yet. I'm just trying to get these boots ready. There is a boot fitter in town that I called but they are close due to a change of ownership.
As you can tell I'm on a tight budget. That's why I bought used 2-3 year old boots. I have a pair of x-tra thick socks:

You just bought them... do they fit?

A liner 'packing out' causes a boot to get looser (and feel too big) with use, you just bought these... do they feel loose and sloppy? Are there rips in the fabric or is the liner paper thin in the heel pocket? Does the boot look worn out?

If the answer to any of these questions is YES, why did you buy them?

Are you just reading too much information on the internet and getting paranoid? I hope so.

As for re-heating them, it won't really do anything for you Salomon uses a 3mm thick heat reactive foam layer that helps break in a new boot, it won't really do anything for you. If you need a new liner look into an after market liner like a Thermoflex or Zipfit, they will give you a custom fit. You could use any liner as long as it fits in the shell, however.

Agree with Whiteroom. Did you do a shell fit? If shell fit was good when the boot becomes loose then you may install anyliner that works.
