Those boots are beautiful. Too bad they're in Australia.

Early grooming equipment at Cranmore, circa 1962.

Early grooming equipment at Apex, circa 1963. Ski school director Al Menzies made this roller himself and dragged it up the rope tow to groom the bunny hill.

Thanks for the memories, Joal. That was the year I learned to ski at Mt. Cranmore. Of course I was over on the self-powered bunny hill!

I think she may even have them on here!

No safety bar?? No helmets??? Straps instead of brakes??  Grooves??  Stretch pants??  How on earth did we survive back in those days?

Amazingly awesome photo btw..  I don't even have any good retro photos of me in 70s ski gear.

Nice bump skiing.  The guy in the white vest reminds me of me.  Total perfection!  LOL!

I like that tow behind road grader turned mogul planner!

What a great look at how grooming started.

I remember skiing at Cranmore in the late 50's early 60's too, riding the Skimobile with my Dad.

Our choices were either Pleasent Mtn in Bridgton or Cranmore

I had a pair of those! 210's

I don't recall if I've posted these pictures. Royal did me the favor of providing the bindings for his cost and shipping (pretty cheap).

The skis won the 1976 Jr. North American DH championships. The bindigs match almost exactly what was originally mounted on them. I wore these for inspection one day at the 2012 Masters National DH Championships.

Call me senile if I posted these before. I couldn't find them in my gallery. :-)

Here are some recent acquisitions:

Splitkein Flexible Flyers, NOS:

Also some Army Skis. I think they are from the Swiss Army judging by the tag. There are not markings on the sidewalls. The skins were never mounted on skis until yesterday. The poles say ARMEE between two crosses. The bindings are Fritchi FT88s that were made beginning in 1982 according to Dawson's site.

Speaking of senility, I forgot to post these:

These belonged to a friend.

These came from ski recycling (which apparently no longer exists) at our recycling cente in Frisco.

Thanks for the heads up royal.

No! I don't have the orange ones either. I don't even remember seeing them back in the day.

But that is of course way too much money for them.

The latest addition to the collection:

I've been told that the usual way to obtain the little skis you wear is to cut down a pair of skis.

Nice old school ski bob.  A friend of mine (BMX buddy) used something similar back around 1979.  They wore mini skis like today's ski blades when they rode those, i.e. cut down regular skis like you mentioned.

I'll keep an eye on them.  if they don't sell for a while maybe I'll offer him $20 and hold them for you.

Great skiing, great video!  Thanks.

Yeah, the camera guys wanted us to ski slowly enough so they could get more in each sequence... good thing my knees were young then!

For us, carving didn't really begin until MUCH faster, so short-swing was the thing. Every once in a while, I'll find myself defaulting to those linked hockey stops!

Sure loved those White Scott Comp boots!

Yes, that's a great video!   Did you know Deac Jones, Brian Elsworth, Mike Summer or Link Jackson?  All of them lived at the Ranch and grew up skiing Bogus in your era?

here are some recent finds.  I plan on taking the N17s off the DAIWAs and swapping them to the Kastles.  the tails on theDAIWAsare bent way up like a Revese canber ski.  somebody must have skied them hard.   Wasn't somebody here looking for some Hart freestyles?   how about the THE SKI.  a color scheme I have not seen before.  80's?    they say "bobby burns collection" on the tails.   these Spademan Butterflys look a bit different than others I have seen.  are they early?  looks like they were used to hold these LOWA TOTAL  boots together as there is a crack right were they are bolted on(or the boots cracked from the plate mounting)   these are an early touring boot with releasable cuff.  wild stuff.

here is an interesting shot of the area between the bindings.  It looks like the scribbled out area had a name and number.  Basses are clear and you can see the inner edge.  there is a small amount of rust at the base of one ski. " 196cm"  "HAND MADE IN PARK CITY"   "1987"

I had several pairs of skis where the base p-tex and edges looked like that.  They didn't come that way.  It happened after many many many days of skiing and filing as the p-tex got thinner and thinner.  It was usually a warning sign that the edge would separate under duress eventually.

Cool find though.  I'd probably ski them once for a couple runs, hope they held together,  then retire them.

Hi Royal,

The Spademan's that are on the ( Lowa Racer boots 1973 )  are the Type 2 plates. They were made larger and the holes wider  to fit the cut outs on many of the newer boots. It looks like who ever put the plates on the boots, cut out some of the sole which was not need! For Spademan made filler's. Good on your ski find!!!! Does your  theski  have some Sage Brush in the base. If you are interested moving theski. Contact me.
