More Retro memories???? - Page 133

Some pics I took at the 'Dodge Aspen Cup' in Aspen in December 1975.  Pretty sure Tyler Palmer and Hank Kashiwa were racing. Can't remember others.  Image quality sucks thanks to the little instamatic camera used.  I've also got a Super 8 movie of the K2 Cup Pro Race at Boyne Mountain in 1973.  Killy, Sabich, Harald Stuefer, Palmer?, et al.  Need to convert that to digital.

Fab pics cje. You might be able to get a much better scan if done directly from the negative.

The Dynamics are incredible.

I've got another post up on my blog.  It's about notable people I've met.  You may know some of them too as some of them are ski related.

Interestingly, no flex numbers on my VR17s.  They do have a '3' imprinted on the top just ahead of the toe binding. confused.gif

This is a brochure I've had since 1972 for Bear Valley Race Camp.  Never did go ... tough to scrape together that sort of coin when you're 15 years old rolleyes.gif  Of course, there are a pair of VR17s in the wagon!

Can someone date these? 210cm Blizzard Firebird Competition Pro w/ Look N77 bindings. Probably late 70s-early 80s, but I'm looking for a specific year.  I bought these used in the mid-80s and they were always one of my favorite skis.  Were they Blizzard's top consumer racing ski at the time?   Thanks.

Not sure on skis, but judging from those bindings, I'd say 79-80. I had the same ones and that's the year I got them. They were on my Rossi FPs.

You guys got me pulling stuff out of the crawl space now rolleyes.gif   These are 200cm Atomic Dominator SLs from the early 70's.  They have the Marker M4 toe and I'm fairly certain I got these the same year the M4 came out.  These are day-glo red.  They replaced a set of Atomics I had the year before that were bright orange and just said 'Atomic' front and back.  I either broke or delaminated those and they sent me these as replacements.

Hey, I still have a mint pair of MV2 Dynastars and S430's with a special factory large dynastar on the ski due to my racing then. These were my (since deceased) twin brothers skis and he never skied on anything but Dynastars from the mid '60's on, especially in Switzerland and later Colorado. They have all the original Look bindings and long thongs. I will never part with them. They are too cool. I might even strap them on for a ski run someday....

Yes, the ST Comps are perhaps my favorite ski graphics ever. In the Rossi  rooster SL timeline, these followed the much loved ST650. Many folks thought the ST650 to be the better ski. This was a mid 70's addition.

here's the pair with some famous brothers too

Nice photos of Tyler Palmer!

He is now having serious health problems, being diagnosed with Addison's disease.

You can read about it here: (scroll down about half way)

Thanks for the great info on my skis!

I can't tell from the ad what the  difference is between the  ST Comp and the ST Comp R?

Which pair do I have?

Also, would you expect to find these skis to have Salomon S444 bindings?

I would like to find the correct safety straps if you know where to find them.

Dave, yours are from 79-81, newer than the white/orange/black ones.

That's impressive recall. thanks. It fits, as I was skiing those at Alta in those years, now that I recall, biggrin.gif

Would that have been the first ski produced with a primarily silver top sheet? eh, eh, got you now mr. brainy. yahoo.gif

I bought the Rossignol ST Comp winter of 76/77 and mounted Look N77 bindings/ski brakes. I left my Salomon 444's on the Rossignol Freestyle J's the ST Comps replaced. I wanna say most were mounted with Look Nevada's, Marker's or the top level Salomon (cant recall the model). I can vaguely remember seeing at least one with 444's which was more a novice - intermediate's binding.

What length are your ST's? My ST series R have a slightly different top sheet. These were available in 160 -190cm. Yours look like the normal ST Comp. The 444 would have been perhaps on a shorter pair 185-195cm for a women or younger man. On most of the "full size" skis (200-207cm) I would expect to see the top of the line Look or Markers of the day, the bindings most suitable for racing. Safety staps shouldn't be that hard to find or better yet the optional Saloman ski brakes that can be retrofitted right on your 444's.

Series R tails vs normal (also can see the brake on the Strato 102 heel piece)

I think the mentioned skis were the first primer versions.

Brakes were a $14.95 option for the 202/222/444/555 series. Then the 727 came out with brakes integrated, the first binding to do so.

When did we switch from 505 to 555?  My Dynamics are supposed to be from 73 or 74 and have the gold 505 Equipe bindings.
