Rossi Smash, I run across those at the thrift store from time to time too. what's thier story?
Quote:
was there a change in the turn table plate design? or did they just put a plastic plate in the existing one. I know slightly later they changed the turntable plate and added hooks front aand back to hold the plastic on. but the plastic plates also changed at that time too. keep the info coming.royal

Many of my original series Look Nevada/Grand Prix bindings are from the 60's on their original skis. As far as I know they did not come with plastic over the turntable. IF they did, then they all fell off and were lost as I have many pairs of these. I do have an early pair with the later brake kit which does has the plastic cover. The second generation "T's" with the reworked turntable, which has the "hooks" front and rear to hold the plastic cover piece were on the scene by 1975, maybe earlier.
As was shown in the picture, there were covers to fit the early turntables but I have no info on when they showed up. 1972-73 does make some sense, but I don't have any ads that show the covers. Anyone with a print ad?

Here's a set of Look bindings (Nevada T/N17) that I received for Christmas in 1973. (In this picture they have been re-mounted on a pair of Head SL skis from 1978.)I recall that the "T" was a reference to the Teflon inserts in the toe wings.

Thanks for the dated pic MM. So the second generation turntable (and the "T" Nevada toe piece) with the "hook" to attch the plastic cover were already available in 1973.
Good data point.

The Rossi's are classic!
The Miller Softs, 195cm, right next to them WERE the powder ski of the day. Since you're in Utah you just might want to sneak back by there and scoop them up!
I think I see a pair of the blue/white hart freestyles in there too....
AND, those K2 5500's with the MRR's are a nice ski, bindings alone worth the price of admission
btw, your local thrift shop has better stuff than mine

Yea, the Haute Routes are one of my all time favorite ski graphic/color combination. I think a nice pair of red Look Nevada's would be great on them too. I definatly thought about the millers and the K2's but I was never really a K2 fan. The Millers were a bit rough near the tails, the bindings were nothing special and I like the later grafhic that looks like a tapering ski track.
If there is ever anything you guys want in the pics I post please feel free to let me let me know. I'll do my best to pick them up for you and ship etc... for actual cost plus shipping. I know skis are probably not worth shipping but If you just wanted the binders I could remove them. I just hate seeing this classic stuff go to the dump.

My dad and me at the Epic Gathering final day at A-Basin.
I skied a couple runs before stopping for lunch and beer.
1978 Rossi ROC 210cm with M4-15 / Rotomat heels and Salomon safety straps *
1978 Rossi gloves *
Bouton goggles
Scott 'pointless' poles
Langes (bought for 50 cents at a senior rummage sale; never worn)
1978 US Team DH suit *
1974 jacket made by my mom *
'Easy Rider' helmet - a modern replica gifted to me by a friend
(* originally mine)
Skis and skier survived with a big grin. The skis actually perform very well still. Edges and bases are in great condition. You have to step the first couple of turns, but then they bend and arc with sufficient speed.

MR, nice job!

1978 was a damn fine year to ski....nice "time capsule"
Does your dad still ski at all?
What other retro gear was present? I saw Philpugs TheSki with step-in Spademan's and brakes. Any other good stuff make it? Pix?

Lots of retro clothes. Not much actual gear.
My Dad and Mum just stopped skiing (80 yo and 76 yo) respectively.
Pics here of the festivities during the week including the Retro day. http://www.epicski.com/forum/newestpost/103056

You wore that red white and blue Captain America outfit and skied on
Rossignals? I remember that was THE ski back then, but the outfit screams for Harts, K2's or Heads, anything American made..

Ski choice came down to appropriateness to the time frame (70s), the racing theme and bindings that I'd trust. I skied all the represented brands during the 70's. I have a bit of stuff to draw from, equipment-wise. I'm more challenged with the clothing. I need some clothing appropriate for older wooden skis and leather boots. A bag would cover more recent gear.

I saw these interesting skis at the thrift shop today. two pair 195cm one goldish one gray. both undrilled. I've never seen/heard of LOOK skis. were they a rebrand? there was no model identification.
Also I picked up a pair of Fisher superglass competition with marker simplex toe a rotomat heal. here is a pic next to the heads I've been working on. I think they look pretty good with the Nevada bindings.

I like those Superglass comps! If you were to bolt on some M4 toepieces in place of the Simplex's, which by the way only requires drilling one new hole. The boot location stays the same ! Then you could take'm out for some laps!!!

Heads look great too, just need some AFDs.
post #3592 of 53414/12/11 at 7:24pmRossi, you need those Look Skis! They're undrilled!
Cool looking - classic graphics even if the ski is not a classic. I'd ski those at Retro Day.
Plus, you're obsessed with Look.
How much are they?

Royal, your Head Comps might be able to answer the question about the plastic covers over the heel pieces on the Look Nevada's'; they appear to be 1st generation. Think that it was about 67 when Head changed their graphics to larger letters to designate the discipline, DH GS SL. Those Looks should have been the model everybody wondered about being able to use covers.
See if a cover will snap on, or if the turntable was redesigned, Inquiring minds want to know.

Stranger, sorry to dissapoint you but I put those looks on there. they came mounted on a pair of K2 skis from the 80's. I think I put a photo a few pages back. there were no bindings on the heads when I bought them. they did have the black plastic heal plates too I just havn't snapped them on yet or mounted the AFD. I just put them in the photo with the fischer's to show my progress on the restoration.Royal

I was thinking the Rossi bindings would be a good match for Look skis. I'm OK with Head boots though..
