The earliest Look N17 Grand Prix heels had TWO rollers per heelpiece. These are the ones made to work with the plastic astragal that held it's shape under the roller pressure. The leather boot soles would deform over time from use and made worse when the leather wet. They simplified the design to a single roller when plastic boots became the norm, and later removed the roller completely with the N77. I'll put up some pictures when I get a chance.

cool stuff Rossi Smash.  I just picked these up today.IMAG0041.jpg  and when comparing them with the binders on the ROC550 's I bought last week.  I  have early heel pieces on both but thr ROC's have a turn table the matches your 2nd gen example.  other differences noticed are One set has red orings in the toe piece indicator and one says "made in france 2" and one doesn't have the "2".  I also noticed your first gen toe doesn't have teflon pieces.  both of my toe pieces have teflon pads.

I also got this cool runaway strap.  the brown "T" shaped strap is LOOK brand stamped on the buckle.  One strap was missing and replaced with the long black piece.  Also I am missing one of the second gen. plastic turn table covers.  You wouldn't happen to have an extra?

PS.  I plan on removing the Nevada's from the K2's and putting them on some thing more appropiate.

Now there's someone who knows about LOOK!! I had a pair of N17s the full LOOK Nevada Grand Prix set up. Nowadays I ride Marker MRRs and Rotamat heels but I ride LOOK bikes! I have 2 carbon road frames, a KG 451 which is so wonderful to ride and I also have a KG 381 which was from the stable Credit Agricole, ridden in the TDF in 2004... no serial number, it just says TOUR where the number should be!!!

What a pleasing solid pop they make when stepped into!

Black were the 3-10DIN, Red, 4-12DIN The T model IIRC added Titanium, this is just before they made the Titanium as a standard model for the 48 series.

And you can see the heel lugs, thick on one side, thinner on the other, to adjust to different boot heel widths.

Yes, before the boot sole DIN standard they were all over the place on width. You could also offset the boot sole to get the foot centered over the ski. The later turntables no longer needed this feature as plastic boots were standardized.

A couple of the Head "GK" skis from their new factory in Kennelbach, Austria . The GK indicated the German equivalent of Glass compound. They were made by former Kastle employees. I think 1972-3ish.

Note the painted rivet on the glass Heads. The rivet on the metal Head was so ubiquitous that they felt they needed to keep the appearance even though they didn't need the actual rivet any more.

Vintage SkiFest at Beaver Creek and Jimmie Heuga Memorial Vintage Ski Race

April 16, 2011

http://www.beavercreek.com/events-and-activities/vintage_ski_race.aspx#eventsschedule#Top

This is the race in which I won an Epic Pass last year. The format has changed and while they are giving away an Epic Pass, this year it is a raffle based on participation, not results. We all had a terrific time last year, I'm sure it will be a blast again this year.

IMG_6046.JPG

Last year: Lots of people. Lots of gear. And Billy Kidd in the cowboy hat.

History of the Lange Girls

When Bob Lange developed the plastic ski boot in 1962 he knew he was onto something good. In 1970, the first Lange girl poster was released, and ski boots suddenly became sexy.

Gotta say that I loved those early posters, but "soft inside" was a lie.  Mine were like a rock.

Huh? Mine Langes when I was younger were very comfy. The red ones I have, like in the poster, I could wear all day. I will for the vintage race.

What would the earliest date for a Marker MRR be?

Can anyone date the boots in the picture? And the (boot's) model name?
