I wouldn't call it a hijack, after all this is More Retro Memories, not More Retro Gear. Gear just sparks the memories!
Those are great memories. Nice photos on your profile, too.
This is my sister, with my mother in the spring of 1956, I think. They are hanging out at HoJos at Hermit Lake, Mt. Washington, NH. My dad took the picture and was there to ski.
Here is my sister getting a lesson from my dad in 1959 at Mt. Cranmore, NH.
And to show she paid attention, here is my sister shredding in the Tetons in 1996.
My parents raised my sister, my brother and myself in the Cranmore Inn in North Conway, NH. They owned it from 1957 until 1975. This is a Christmas card that my parents sent to guests of the inn and family. It was from about 1960.
My sister and I used to take rides with the guests to the ski areas as my parents were always busy with the inn. I'd come home from skiing and light a fire in the fireplace and prepare the cocoa and hot tea service along with cookies, brownies and cake for the guests. Back in the 60's we would have families from around Boston book pretty much the entire inn for Christmas and winter vacations. They'd come back year after year; they were like family.
Our whole family still skis and the kids are grateful to our parents for their support. Neither my siblings or I have children to pass skiing on to, but my brother and I both coach. It is important to me to support skiing tradition and much of that is remembering where we came from and how we got here.
