SUMMIT COUNTY - The coroner's office says a skier who died Sunday hit a tree.

The Summit County Coroner's Office says 43-year-old Michael Howe of Andover, Kansas was in Colorado skiing with a friend.

Around 11:15 a.m., Howe was trying to make a stop while skiing on Frenchman, an intermediate trail at Keystone, when he crashed into the tree, hitting his head and chest. According to a release from Keystone Ski Resort, he was wearing a helmet.

Howe was taken to Keystone Medical Center. He was pronounced dead around 1:20 p.m. The coroner's office says he died due to blunt force trauma to the chest.

Howe worked for Zep Manufacturing.
