When to go to Utah? (first or second half of March?)

Greetings!

I'm from the UK and am looking at when to go skiing in Utah for two weeks next year.

Avoiding holidays and trying to get the best condtions for the cost, I can go in the first two weeks or the second two weeks of March.

From what i've read on here, the Spring Break doesn't seem to affect Utah's slopes with too many crowds, so what I want to know is when in March it would be best to go, with regards to cost/weather/conditions etc.

I appreciate any help info you can give, for me it could be a trip of a lifetime whereas you lucky people have it a lot closer to home!

Many thanks,

Joe

Well, planning that far ahead, I've gotta recommend the first half. The second half can have stunning conditions - bright blue skies, lots of snow, less people but you have a much higher chance of warm weather that'll make the snow conditions go to crap. So for that reason alone, I think the first 2 weeks of March are your safest bet. If you're going to be here for that long, consider renting a car and going to Colorado, Jackson Hole, or Montana as well. Renting a car is pretty cheap, you'll just have to remember we drive on the correct side of the road.

Thanks for that Vinn

So would you say there's much difference in cost (accommodation/ski-rental/passes etc) between the first half and second half of March?

I've gotta start looking this far in advance to book the relevant weeks off work!

accommodations = Some (10-20% for on Mtn lodging, no difference for lodging in the SLC valley)

ski-rental = None

passes = None.

given the pound v. the dollar, you'd be crazy to torture this decision. Lock in what you need to now, and leave yourself some flexibility, because that stronger currency will allow you to do things we can't--like cat skiiing, etc.
