Castle Mountain .....Wow!!!!

As a Sunshine season pass holder I have been pretty much exempt from enjoying any huge dumps this year.

The Dive has been closed for most of the year and the snow has only trickled in all season.

Adding insult to injury was the fact that Fernie and Castle (ok ...Whistler and everywhere else) has been getting huge dumps with cumulative totals double that of Sunshine.

At lunch on Friday a big storm was forecast to hit the Alberta-US border.

I have been burned before by Environment Canada storm chasing.

I made last minute reservations in Pincher Creek for two nights - left work early and went home to pack my gear.

Once in Pincher there was no indication of snow by bedtime and a peek out the window at 3:00am didn't show any snow. Upon waking there was snow but only a slight dusting.

My 11 year old son and I headed out and a snow plow turned onto the highway in front of us just outside of Pincher Creek. I thought "what the heck is this guy going to plow". Five minutes later we entered back into winter as if penetrating some kind of barrier......total white out.

I had never been to Castle before but ended up with the best day I have EVER had.
There website was down the day of the dump but I think they reported 51cm in 48hrs.

Beautiful light knee deep to waist deep pow and face shots all day long on Saturday. No crowds as I had heard the drive from Calgary was a nightmare.

Sunday it was still snowing lightly and lots of untracked to be had.

What a weekend!!!!

Here is a pic of my son and a video he shot of me on Sunday.
Unfortunately I left my camera at the hotel on Saturday. Maybe it was best anyway.

My legs were getting pretty tired here:

Nice little video. I especially liked the big smile at the end.
