What, no hockey fans? - Page 3

Back when Mario was at the top of his game I kind of liked the Penguins. Then he had that bout with Hodgkin's disease and retired. Then he made this marvelous comeback. But, after that it seemed that evry other week he got hurt, had all those back problems, etc. He kind of just burned out and faded away. I guess he should have just stated out after the lymphoma. He wouldn't have as many goals but he would have been far more of an icon. But, I guess if he hadn't have had all those injuries in the end he might have been percieved more like a Nolan Ryan or Roger Clemmons (before the steroid allegations). Anyway, I lost interest in following the Pens after he started to be all pathetic, kind of like real Penguins LOL!

No doubt about it, we've sucked for about what? 15 years? Back in Mario's day, it wasn't just him and Jags killing it, it was the whole team...just like now.

I just hope Shero can pull some magic tricks and keep this team together for a few years. We finally have a team worth watching again.

They're dropping lile flies;
Rangers' Sean Avery out for season with lacerated spleen

Avery out??? wow. He's not been the force in front of the net that he was suppose to be this series. Drury went out last night and when he came back on the ice ha still looked stiff.

The Pens have been playing a physical game but a lacerated spleen, How'd that happen?
They just keep saying, they can't determine at what point in the game it happened. Hossa was the only one I saw lay a huge hit on him. Game 3 took a few victims.

Avery, Scuderi and Talbot.

I think that is a myth. Look at the core players, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Kronwell Cleary, Samuaelson, Rafalski, and Stuart are all in their prime.

Are you saying Lidstrom is too old? I would take him over any two of the Pens D.

Maltby, Draper, Drake and McCarty are old, but they still play well, have tons of playoff experience and add grit and goals.

Chelly is a rare specimen.

I have a feeling the old guys will take the Pens kids to school.

To Pittsburgh fans, Chelios is definitely a specimen. I just don't think we're going to agree on the type of specimen

They don't need any Geritol

They drink Ensure
DOH! and the Wings are getting it from both sides now, lmao.

Pride goeth before the fall. Unlike the Pens fans, as a Wing fan I have experience watching playoff hockey and watching my team skate around the ice hoisting Lord Stanley's Cup.

You mean like this?

And like this?
I maybe mistaken, but those are not Penguin sweaters.

Took a look at the Canes Championship. Playoff hockey is all about hot goalies and good fortune. The Canes played the eight seeded Oilers in the finals. Not taking anything away from their championship, but they were fortunate not to face the Wings, Sharks, Ducks or Stars.

Holy crap, you mean we didn't win back to back cups? I could swear I was there for them. Pretty sure I was in the Pepsi center for every home game of the Av's/Wings series and both their back to back cups too. I must be confused.

No, I'm not confused, it really did happen.
That explains it, you are a Pens and an AVs fan. Couldn't pick two worse teams.

Proudly a Pens fan for life. Also proud to have been there for game #1 and onwards of the Avs...except not so much on the Avs right now
post #78 of 2567
By the way, the Avs never won back to back cups.
You are correct. I should either focus on work or hockey, not both. Tough to do today. Avs got bumped in the 96/97 season. I was back here in PA for the 2nd cup win.

Are you referring to the eight seeded Oilers that beat Detroit in the FIRST round that year?:

Hey, I've gotta rub it in while I can. I still think the Wings are probably the team to beat this year..
Yea, no one knows the agony of defeat more than a Wings fan.:

The three cups help overcome the pain.

3-0, what happened? Were the kids up past their bedtimes and didn't get enough sleep to play well?
Wings 5 Avs 1, 2nd period, I wonder what they put in the Geritol or Ensure tonight?
Since the old guys are doing so well, maybe we ought to dress Gordie, Micky and Alex for the next series.

8-1 Detroit, 3rd period. Oh no, the Avs have a 5 on 3, maybe they will make the comeback and force OT
post #85 of 2567
The AVs score. Now it is 8-2, time to worry. Maybe Babs should pull Ozzie for Hasek, before it gets out of hand.
We all know the Avs have absolutely sucked in the playoffs this year. I certainly hope you watched the 3-0 loss, because the Rags D was locked down last night.

Hey, I have a bit of a thread here so humor me for a moment. I had a flashback reading this. Anybody out there old enough to remember the "World Hockey League"? If so please pass the Ensure!

I barely remember it but seem to recall it was where the likes of Howe and Bobby Hull finished their careers.:

Ask the Wild?

I am encouraged by the Wings play against the Avs, but realize that they had injuries and are not the Avs of old. That being said, as a Wings fan, it was nice to see that they did not make a star out of Jose and that the second line has become a a world class scoring line.

Vaguely. But who needs it when you have an NHL team, the Wings, that only plays players over 50.

Just watched the highlights of the Pens game. Looks like the kids don't like to be hit. Maybe they shouldn't be playing in the NHL playoffs. It is no place for a soft team. Just ask the old and soft Wings.
