I guess they can't hold you to that standard no other hockey contract stipulation when they flush your contract down the toilet!

Now consider all the people that have been out of work for months and finally lined up a job at the hockey arena working the events there.. local businesses that prosper from the traffic around the arena.... It's not like they can just go to Russia and work there instead...frown.gif

Well, playing without an iron clad contract isn't all that great either.

I don't know who are the bigger group of idiots, NFL owners or NHL owners. Dante's Inferno of stupidity all around. While no hockey will hit the sport (and owners) hard, the NFL owners are making more than their usual mockery of the game with the replacement refs. And the NFL money issue is only pennies on the dollar, whereas the NHL differences involve substantially more money.

I think ~ a 50-50 revenue split eventually happens in the NHL.

Lets hope this is not going to be the trend.....

This is barely an exaggeration. Right now, in the heart of primetime, the main sports network in Canada is showing ... poker. Yay.

Owners: OK, here's the deal- 50/50 split, skip over the details about how we get there, and btw, this is our best offer. Pass on it and this is all your fault.
Players: Ummm, 50/50 is fine with us, but here are three proposals as to how we handle those messy details, and btw, you will honor the contracts already in place.
Owners: Unacceptable! Well, we did our best.

Owners..........what a bunch of idiots. The game became more popular and profitable then ever but in their magnificent business model you take a greed driven risk to make more money from the talent that makes the game possible. Wait a minute, sounds like most....... never mind. My reply is more suited for the P&HT forum. So I'll just shut up and watch football, such as it is in Pittsburgh these days.

Now with second round cuts thru Nov. 1...

I don't think they are even talking....

Things are not looking good at all....hissyfit.gif

I wonder if our local markets will play our teams minor league affiliates??

Down here, we get to see a decent amount of Hartford Wolfpack games, but now since my Rangers arent playing those games seem a little more enticing

I am no longer there, but where my family lives just got a professional hockey team move in from New Jersey. The league is like the feeder league for the ECHL. Williamsport has no ice rink yet so they're playing outdoors this season. Only professional hockey team doing it. Playing on the minor league baseball field in one of the oldest stadiums in the US.

That's cool - how many games will they be doing that for?

Where's their warming hut eh??

I think the season runs from last night until early February. Something like 35 games.

Game time temp was 75 so no warming hut needed. I'm surprised they got the rink up and functional as warm as it has been there.

Did they have any problems with fog? I've played league games on some outdoor rinks early/late season down here (Wells near College Park, MD), where the fog was unfreakingbelievable. If you took your eye off the puck, you wouldn't find it again until it came within 20 feet of you. Made for some interesting hockey. Kinda like a Pens game. wink.gif

No idea, wasn't there. That shot was from my dad, I'm 2000 miles away where 75 feels like winter.

Well no hockey till at least Dec 1 now

25% of our season now pissed away  nonono2.gif

The Winter Classic is tossed away.  Just cannot believe that the NHL owners and management can be this stupid.

Love how the NHL network is broadcasting old playoff games and KHL games.  Did they give all the subscribers their money back this year?  Hey,owner's, how bout you throw your fans a bone and make the NHL network free until the strike is settled?  Might just keep us interested until you start playing real games again.....

I say let's ditch them and petition the networks to give us hockey from leagues that are playing..

they have now cancelled through Dec. 14th PLUS the All Star weekend.

That should just about do it. The Winter Classic and the All Star weekend are the two big "non" fan money draws for the regulat season. If they don't care enough about these, then the rest of the season means nothing to then either.

now the question remains, can they "fix" it by NEXT season? eek.gif nonono2.gif

FWIW, not sure how accurate the figures are. Forbes is reporting a huge variation in revenue and operating income for the NHL teams last season.
