This is very strange for me, as I couldn't stand the Kings before a couple of years ago.

Missed the first period, but both goalies are looking stellar right now. Although it seems Broduers seeing less rubber. Prust better sit 4 games for that flagrant elbow. Looked identical to Matt Cookes shot that earned him 25 last year (granted Cookie was a repeat offender, not sure about Prust but then again 4 games is a lot less than 25 as well).

No kidding, I thought that clumsy tying goal would do in the Devils. But apparently they really are Devils... or something.

Just like I thought, LA vs NJ for the cup!  OK, still some games to go, but, geez, the Rangers have not looked good.  How do you come out on your home ice in that big of a game and be so flat-footed to start the first period?  Every time I watch them, this seems to be their pattern, lousy-brilliant-lousy-brilliant, repeat until the horn blows and we see who has the most goals.  Any bets on a game 7 back in NY?  Ya gotta think the way this post-season has gone that the Rangers bounce back to take game 6.

I'm content seeing either team win the cup at this point. I like the vengeance factor for the ex-Flyers winning it all in LA after Philly gave up on their former C man. Plus I'm still loyal to Scuderi for his shutdown D that won us the cup in 09 and earned him his payday that sent him west. OTOH despite hating the Devils all those years they won the Atlantic I'd like to see Marty win the cup and go out on top. I'm a sucker for good story lines. I'd also like to mention that I predicted it would be LA v NJ before the second round started.

Funny, sure looked like NJ had the better of play in game 4, yet somehow it still feels like LA let one slip away.  Time for the first road loss of the post-season for LA?  Or will being away from home get them loose enough that those shots off the pipe in game 4 become goals in game 5?

It's Goooooood to be Da King.  What a beat down so far..  4-0 early second period.

Historic win for the Kings. Everyone loves an underdog story.

During the Pittsburgh game we went to last season Sutter was dragging all over the ice.  I told my kid we should try to trade him for Jordan Stahl.  He has moments of greatness here and there, but they are fewer and fewer.  Now just to go bet Marc from the Rangers.

PITTSBURGH -- Carolina Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford has said since the season ended that he wanted to acquire a top-tier forward to play with Canes captain Eric Staal.

And Rutherford did Friday, when he traded for Jordan Staal of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After some last-minute wheeling and dealing, Rutherford completed the swap just before the NHL Entry Draft began at the Pens' Consol Energy Center. The price was steep, costing the Canes center Brandon Sutter and defensive prospect Brian Dumoulin, plus Carolina's first-round pick (eighth overall) in this year's draft.

I'm sad to see Jordan go and the consensus here in the 'Burgh was that Malkin would be the one to be traded. Obviously Jordan wasn't interested in a long term deal with the Pens and Shero pulled the trigger. Carolina paid a steep price but Jordan is just coming into his best playing years. His offensive game will only improve and he will be a great 2 way player.

Pens fans will miss him. I think Shero did the right thing.

I never understood the constant willingness of many 'burgers to trade Malkin. I'm also sad to see Staal go, but I think he really was set on playing with is brother in a more prominent role so he wasn't going to resign anyhow unless we spent all the cap money that we need to address other issues. The timing works out well too, because of Parise being available right now. I think he would be a great fit on Sids wing and let Neal and Malkin keep the chemistry they have going on their line. Depending how they work things maybe even pick up Sutter as a UFA especially if we can figure out a way to get rid of Martin and his $5 mil contract.

Sid + Malkin + Neal + Parise? I don't think any team could fit all of them into their cap space. Parise will be asking big bucks and may get it with few top players in FA this off-season.

Pens offered 6 million per year? Correct? Kinda low for Staal. Looking at today's salaries, he can command 7-8 per. Easily. Edit: I thought Staal had more points in his career; he was one of the Pens I feared the most. But at 23 and with the potential to explode, I can see him holding out for 7-8 in a year or so.

For better or worse, salary cap management is now as important in the NHL as in the NFL.

I think Parise will be looking for 7+ per. More likely closer to 8. (He got 6 this year.)

Malkin and Crosby are both currently at 8.7 With a Hart year, I suspect Malkin will be looking for more. Plus, at those numbers, Crosby is risky. Tough decision for the Pens. I wouldn't want to make it.

Neal is relatively bargin-priced at 5 per, long term.

After a month and a half long search, the Washington Capitals have named Adam Oates coach.

Oates, who spent six seasons in Washington as a player and captained the team in 1999-2000...

Oates, 49, was an assistant coach with the New Jersey Devils each of the past two seasons. During his time with the Devils, Oates was responsible for the power play and also played an important role in helping Russian star Ilya Kovalchuk develop a two-way game.

Oates has no prior head coaching experience at any level on his resume, but his stock as a potential candidate rose this past spring as the Devils advanced to the Stanley Cup final. He has spent a total of three years as an assistant coach in the NHL, serving in Tampa Bay in 2009-10 and each of the past two seasons in New Jersey.

What the Pen's fans opinion of Crosby's new contract? It's longer, but for a much less per-year cap hit than I thought it would be.

We all know that Crosby is an immature whining wimp and now we know he's pretty dumb too. Now why would such an egoistical little snot do such a thing?

I like the deal. He didn't try to extort them for the big bucks and was willing to take a slightly lower salary to keep cap room to pick up a good winger. Obviously they have a few slots to fill but with 15 mil of cap space I think the Pens have a legitimate shot at Parise now. He is friends with Crosby and the Pens have cap room. If they can sucker someone into taking Martin off our hands maybe they can pick up Suter too.
