Yyyyyyyyeeeeesssssss! The Rangers Win,The Rangers Win!!!!!!

I was even cheering for the Rangers to win, but wanted to see another OT period. I was curious where it would rank in the longest OT games in NHL history and went to Wikipedia to find out. Someone was live updating and moving it up the table as the minutes ticked by with pending next to the amount of time taken. Ended up being the 20th longest NHL game in history. 6 seconds shy of taking 19th. Interesting that only 5 of the 20 longest games have been won by the home team.

OUCH!  Girardi got eek.gif sliced open by Lundquvist's stick pretty good.  Come on John, you had to laugh at that!  It was almost a shame for the Rangers to win that keeper's battle.  The Capitals outplayed New York most of the game I believe.  The Rangers just didn't have the physical edge or dominate the possession and shots as much last night. th_dunno-1[1].gif And, they had late period power plays and still couldn't close the doorhissyfit.gif.   I'm still not convinced they will win the series.  I hate depending on a tender to win low scoring games when the offense is struggling.  I'll be happy if they do, but don't mind admitting being out played and congratulate Washington if the can bounce back and take this thing.

Ok I'm not even a Devils fan and I know that there is no 's' sound in the last name Zidlicky. Its getting really annoying that they keep calling him Zidlisky.

I watched the first OT but had to get to bed. John and Jim K. are sad but Charles and MikeC are happy. Hey buddies, at least your teams are still playing.

John, I loved the Fuehrer link. I never knew that Adolf was a yinzer.

On the bright side, the Flyers lost again.

Yinz guys coming to the Burgh for a ball game?

I think that's kinda the way the Rangers play. They were outplayed, often badly, for much of their first-round series with Ottawa, who actually doubled them in shots attempted. But they're maddenly hard to get a clear scoring chance on. It's an effective style, but you'd think it would be difficult to sustain. Shot-blocking is dangerous as hell, and defending in your own zone is exhausting, but they're pulling it off. Can't say I want them to win, but I admire their dedication and discipline.

By the way, Hitler was equally upset about the Leafs missing the playoffs.

I don't know about that. It appears the Fuehrer was a Caps fan a few years back.

The Kings in four!?!  This is turning into one freakin' strange playoff sesaon.  Phx vs LA for the western crown?  Or even Nashville, should they pull off some miracle comeback, vs. LA?  Could we see the #7 seed in the east play the #8 seed in the west for the cup?

I'm not that surprised about what's happened out west. The Canucks have underachieved way too often in the playoffs to have much confidence in them. They always seem to luck great on paper. The Blues? Great story but not yet ready for prime time. The Wings? Getting old and they had some long stretches of bad hockey. Hawks? Way too inconsistent this year plus not sold on their goaltending. (I was rooting for them.) Who else does that leave? Nashville? Had they ever won a playoff series before? Sharks? Tank in the playoffs even more often than the Canucks.

The Kings really underachieved during the regular season. At the start of the year, I think most had them much higher than a #8 seed. Plus, didn't they get a forward back from injury at the start of the playoffs? Wasn't it Richards? Couple that with Quick ...

Phoenix has definitely surprised me. And I was shocked at how well the Blues played during the regular season. But they were a #2 seed to be knocked off.

Yeah, they went through a long stretch where they couldn't score. Avs swept them this year, which is hilarious because the Avs were not so good against the West this season (and absolutely hapless in their own division, which was the WORST division, as far as playoff qualifiers...).

Avs were great against the East, though, 13-4-1. Go figure. Swept the Northeast. Sigh.

Nashville and Phoenix are very similar teams. Avs haven't beaten Nashville in approximately 7 years, and letting Phoenix score first is a death sentence. So I respect those two teams the most, just because of (narrow) personal experience. Surprised Rinne isn't playing better, though.

St Louis (and Brian Elliott) was overachieving.

Anyway, from what I've seen, defense and goaltending seem to be a bit better in the West, NYR excepted. (Avs beat them, too, though. Can we switch conferences?) Although there's Holtby, too, so I guess you can put him in there, even though he wasn't a reg season factor. Not so impressed with the PA goalies. Brodeur is old. He looked horrible the night I saw him, so I have no faith that he can keep it up the entire playoffs, but ... he is Brodeur.

Finals will be interesting, whatever happens.

Perhaps their success against the East was more because the West knows how to play them because of the frequency of matchups rather than their matching up better against the East. Be careful what you wish for ;)

Clearly I forgot the winkie.

(Most likely the Eastern teams felt they could take a night off against a not-great team in the other conference, thus not really risking that many points. And a not-great but talented and young and immature team found it easier to get up for the "interesting" games than the 12th game against Calgary. )

That said, I do think the Avs match up better against the East at this point in time.

Nah, you're overthinking. Denver just has better bars than Picksburgh, Philly, New York and Boston. Tougher for the road team.
