What, no hockey fans? - Page 69

Well, that's it for the Pens. They dug too deep a hole in this game and the series. I'd normally congratulate the Flyers and their fans but......ok you guys won so gloat on. Unlike the Caps, these guys beat you when it counts. Post season play was even at 3 series a piece,  now the Flyers are up one. Maybe I'll watch some more hockey but I have no interest beyond home teams. Enjoy the rest of the playoffs folks.

On the flipside, I do think it would be hilarious if the guy who wouldn't go let The President congratulate him and shake his hand because he "hates big government" gets eliminated by the WASHINGTON CAPITALS,,roflmao.gif

Wellllll, the three teams I did NOT want to see holding the cup are out in the first round; yay for small victories.

Caps v Bruins has been as close as a series could be. Six one goal games, three OTs, and I *think* at only one point was a team up by more than one goal (game 5).

So, what was with Bylsma's press conference? It was an entertaining series with pretty significant highs and lows on both sides, but I don't think anyone on either side would say that the series was decided by luck or unfair officiating. In all the games, the team that deserved to win pretty much won. Personally I could care less about all the fake sportsmanship stuff that coaches, etc, say after games but if you don't feel like being gracious just give some stock answers and move on or look pissed or just don't say anything. I don't know why he would go out of his way to make a point of sounding like a petulant child. That was weird. (I wont even go the Crosby route, but his comments afterward were weird too, about not getting the bounces in game 1 or something. Reminded me of the Eagles talking about how great a team they really were even though they started the season 4-8.)

Probably has something to do with the Pens being the most arrogant bunch of whiny wimps on ice.

I'm one of the last people to ever defend Crosby or the Pens, but that was a seriously missed call by the refs on Briere's goal. Though it didn't affect the outcome of the series.

Blech! I feel like I need a shot of Jack Daniels after typing that.

Go take a shower but you're right. That missed call didn't win the series.

It was a pretty horrendous call on Briere's goal for sure. Not really sure how they could have missed it since it's kind of the only thing the linesman is supposed to be doing there. Officials are having a rough go of it. With so many judgment calls to have to sort out with cheap shots and significant injuries going on, they can't be blowing the obvious objective ones too!!

Speaking of which, the Sens second goal tonight on Lundqvist was pretty horrible. Never mind the kick, which it really did look like. Can't figure out how all those officials couldn't see Neil's stick (of all people) shoving Lundqvist off the goal mouth. Lundqvist was right to be pissed. Can't have goalies getting shoved around so guys can be kicking skate blades around the crease. Something tells me Neil might want to get some kevlar for the backs of his legs for game 7!!

I'm hoping for an upset win by the Caps over Boston in Boston, but that was a golden opportunity LOST in Washington on Sunday.  I thought we were going to get them, but Boston swarmed like wet hornets in OT and the Caps looked tired.

Fantastic hockey in the Eastern Playoffs! Two game 7s with all very tight games. popcorn.gif

Several players on both sides looked tired in OT (or at the end of regulation), especially Chara. Sequin clearly had legs all game long.

Meet the new Caps, same as the old Caps. Game 6 was a litmus test for me to see if the worm had truly turned for the Caps. It hasn't. They are playing much better playoff hockey this year, but they are still missing the killer instinct.

That said, the pressure now shifts back to Boston since they are now the clear favorites to win the series. Caps play much better as the underdog. (I gave the Caps a better chance at winning a game 7 than a game 6.)

But if they lay another game 7 egg, than there should be no doubt the core needs to be disbanded. Ted would never do it, but I'd consider trades for Ovie. (Backstrom is an absolute keeper.) I'd take Weber or Suter (Nashville) over Green in a heartbeat. As would the entire NHL with the possible exception of GMGM.

Just so I'm clear (and pain-free), exactly what logos does that doll come in?

Humm, that is odd, there seems to be one somewhere that works on Hurricanes latelyhissyfit.gif

And with the Bruins gone every team that has won the cup in the post-lockout era is now eliminated. Has been a different winner every year since. If the Devils lose tomorrow night you have to go back to 1994 and the NYR to find the most recent team still in the playoffs to have won the Cup, 1975 and the Flyers before that.

That was amazing. Hate to see the first round end!! No late game to watch now!

John, I thought you'd be so disappointed with this win. biggrin.gif Funny how a team that just seems to be missing something suddenly finds it and becomes a winner. Enjoy, I hope the Caps go all the way.

Thanks Rob.

I'm just glad I didn't get a DWI driving home. The bar I was in erupted after Ward's goal. We tipped well.

I sure as heck can't figger the Caps out, but I'm enjoying the ride for however long it does last.

FROM A WASHINGTON POST STORY TODAY:  The Nats moved to 14-4 on Wednesday, which Mark Zuckerman reports is the best D.C. baseball beginning since, oh, 1932. They also have the best record in the National League. They’re also 10 games above .500. TEN GAMES!

The Capitals just beat the Stanley Cup champs, and the team that had the best regular-season goal differential in the NHL, in perhaps the closest series in league history, winning three times on the road, including an insane overtime thriller in Game 7.

The Wizards, to be sure, have had a dead rotting fish carcass of a season, and yet they’re currently riding a five-game win streak, the best in the Eastern Conference, and have somehow managed not to hurt their draft position along the way.

And the Redskins? Yeah, they’re about to draft Robert Griffin III, the man who will instantly become the most popular Washington athlete in years, and possibly decades.
