We had tickets to game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2002 when the Hurricanes lost to the Wingshopmad.gif.  The final score of that game was 3-0 Wings, but the game looked a lot more lop sided than that.  The "Red Army" was indeed something very special, and hated for good reason hahaha!

Canes suck this year, Stars got off to a great start then flailed totally.  That leaves the Rangers as my home team to watch in the playoffs.  I'm quickly running out of "home" teams LOL

“Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.

WTF?  Really?  This is hardly the Black Power salute on the Olympic medal platform kind of statement.  Dude with major political and government grievance had a chance to actually TALK with the freakin' President and opts to snub him instead.  Brilliant!spit.gif

That would be fine, except it is a TEAM SPORT.  He's also blowing off his TEAM MATES in his effort to stick it to the man baby. Isn't doing team stuff with the team his job?  "Dammit Obama's coming to visit my boss and co-workers. nonono2.gif I think I'll call in sick"rolleyes.gif

Trust me, if he keeps the biscuit out of the net, they'll be OK with it  cool.gif

Got a call from a friend that has a share of  a Carolina Hurricanes Season Tickets package yesterday.  It seems that they are unable to make this event Sunday and asked if I wanted the two free tickets.  No, it doesn't conflict with the SuperBowl either, but we will definitely miss church.  yahoo.gif

Quote:

Full Season Ticket Holders in attendance will enjoy a John Forslund interview with Hurricanes Head Coach Kirk Muller, followed by a team practice closed to the public and open exclusively to Full STHs.  Light fare will be provided for attendees, and kids can enjoy inflatable games on the concourse.

Pregame Skate Estimated Schedule of Events
10:00 a.m. - Gates Open/Food Stations & Inflatable Games Open
10:15 a.m. - John Forslund Interview with Kirk Muller
11:00 a.m. - Hurricanes Practice Begins

By RSVP'ing, you'll qualify to win great Hurricanes player-autographed prizes. Keep in mind that you must be present to win, so only RSVP to let us know you'll be attending if you plan to use your tickets.

Tickets for each of the Exclusive Full Season Ticket Holder Events were included with your season ticket package, and must be used for entry on a one ticket per person basis.

Additional Points of Interest

·  The Closed Practice will be off-limits to anyone without a ticket for this specific event.

·  Ticket can be found within your ticket booklet - not to be confused with tickets for other STH events.

·  Anyone 2 years of age or older will need a ticket to enter.

·  The Eye team store will be open at 10:00 a.m.

·  RSVP prize winners will be notified via the video board during the Closed Practice - must be present to win.

There is a "skate with the Hurricanes" event following, but I don't think they purchased those tickets, not included with the original package.  I don't actually have the tickets in my hand and the person bringing them isn't certain which events they are for, sounds like the practice is what we actually have admission for.  Anyway, we'll be there for everything that is included.

On the glass watching the Carolina Hurricanes practice this morning.  This was close to as cool as seeing a Stanley Cup game awhile back.  My kids are pretty fortunate.  They have no idea how lucky they really are!

nonono2.gifGee, no wonder they were giving away Toumo Ruuu's at Bobblehead Night last month!

NHL Eastern Conference trade deadline outlook

With the NHL trade deadline three weeks from Monday, the Carolina Hurricanes seem to be everyone's favorite partner.

General manager Jim Rutherford hopes his team rockets into contention, but the more likely scenario is the Hurricanes becoming a major seller. Tuomo Ruutu (16 goals) is the hottest trade name.

Well, we did well against Boston this season. However, the Penguins still seem to own the Hurricanes.  I just figured out why.  It must have something to do with PNC purchasing RBC haha..

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 15, 2011 – Gale Force Sports & Entertainment today announced that the Centennial Authority granted preliminary approval to The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC) to rename the local sports and entertainment venue as "PNC Arena."

The naming rights agreement, which would replace the "RBC Center" name, is expected to take effect in March 2012, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approval of PNC's acquisition of RBC Bank, USA.

Bruins come to town today - heading for the game shortly.  Wild have gone from awesome to miserable.  Oct/Nov/first week of December were incredible - since then it's been pure crap and the net result is they are exactly where all the pundits said they would be: at the bottom of the league with little chance to make the playoffs.  Oh well.  Hope they can muster a few more good games before the season is over!

And shocker of shockers - Wild 2 Boston 0!  Backstrom was great!

I know, the Canes beat the Beaners three times this season!yahoo.gif

According to the local fish wrapper, I shouldn't have been surprised.  The Wild own a lifetime 10-1-1 record against Boston....

Just when the season was looking kinda dull up here, the Wild go and take it to another level...of weirdness!  Trading one of their veteran defensemen for two players both of whom the Wild let go several years ago and one who wasn't even good enough to make it back into the NHL after the lock out and has been playing in Europe and the AHL ever since.  Sure hope that Palmeri kid and the draft choices amount to something.  Would have to say that Foster could be a good addition too, but I don't understand why they want Veilleux back.  I've never seen a forward that could miss a wide open net the way Veilleux can.  And now today the Wild have traded two more of their most reliable defensemen for a bit more youth.  And this is suppose to help a play-off push?  Looks the Wild are planning for next year.  If I were a Wild goalie, I'd be asking for combat pay, 'cause they are going to get shelled.

From one helluva game 'gainst the Bruins to two shutout losses, the Wild have gone from major excitement to major disappointment.  How does a team go from #1 in the NHL to the bottom of the conference?  Even if they had played .500, they'd at least be in the hunt right now.  Easy answer - they can't score goals, ranking dead last in the NHL.  Injuries have been a problem - the Wild have dressed 44 different players this year.  Pile on some questionable trades when the team says they are "striving to make the playoffs" and it shouldn't be surprising that the team is out of contention.  They look like a team that's just starting the pre-season.  Passes can't find their mark, players missing their assignments, holding the puck too long, etc.  Really frustrating to watch. frown.gif

Guess it's time to start rooting for the Blackhawks again.

I feel for you ... very similar to the Avalanche last year. They were hot until the All-Star break, then went in the tank like nothing else. Youth + injuries, not good. But thanks for the 4 points...

I hope conditioning is at the top of Muller's list for the Hurricanes next season (and the end of this one).  The Canes are 3 and 13 in overtime this season.redface.gif

Penguins are rolling now. I wonder if they can catch the Rangers at this point though. Imagine how beastly they'll be if Crosby and Letang comeback for the playoffs.

Rangers are Rockin'  Bruins are hanging on, but seem to flounder against really crappy teams.  Penguins could be a dark horse in the Eastern finals.  Look out West.  Who woulda thunknonono2.gif the Blues would be leading the conference?eek.gif

I kinda think it would be very cool for St Louis to stun everyone and win the cup this year, but only if the Stars, Rangers, or Bruins can't.

The Blues have been a good franchise for many, many years without being rewarded with a Cup. I'd like to see them win. (I'd rather see Ottawa win, of course, but the Senators aren't ready yet. I'd like to see a bit of a playoff run though. In our small-market town, playoff hockey is a big, exciting deal.)

Well the Pens are currently 3-2 against the Rangers this year with a game upcoming. The Rangers won the first two matchups in the fall, but the Pens have owned them since. And thats what they've done without their best forward on the ice.

And the Hurricanes are 4-0 against the Bruins this season.tongue.gif  At this point it is more how they are playing against everybody.  Unless they meet in the playoffs your point is moot.  I will say the Pens are heating up at the right time.

4 games in a row against the conference leading rangers and 10 games in a row. Scored more goals against the Rangers than anyone has all season. The Pens are 12-1 against their last 13 teams that are in the playoffs. Plus we have Crosby and Letang back. Should be another deep playoff run this year if we can keep healthy for once.

The Rangers appear to be resting folks for the playoffs.  Dirty birds do look pretty good at the moment.  Ought to be interesting down the stretch.

Pens are just getting started!

Sure was nice to see Sid back where he belongs, what'd he get maybe 16 minutes? He looked good out there!

and now with Letang back.....I'm getting a good feeling. Let's hope they can all stay in one piece and give us a proper run!

Yes because with a crucial game to try and hold their #1 seed they decided to rest some guys 3 weeks out from the playoffs. BSmeter.gif

We get them one more time. We're still in first place and we're still a good team," center Brad Richards said. "We have guys coming back soon, too, and we are going to keep plugging away and looking toward Saturday's game (against Colorado) and getting those two points."

Henrik Lundqvist had hoped to return for Thursday's 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh after missing the previous game with the flu, but the All-Star goalie still didn't feel well enough to play and gave way again to backup Martin Biron.

RW Ryan Callahan, who missed his third straight and sixth in nine with a bruised foot, did offer some high praise for Lundqvist on Thursday in a local radio interview.

Having injures isn't resting guys for a playoff run. Thats no different than why Crosby didn't play in any of the previous 5 games against the Rangers this season.
