I watched the big game on Sunday. The Chiefs handled the Rangers to win the cup!

The Spokane Chiefs beat the Kitchener Rangers to win the Memorial Cup, which is the championship for major junior hockey

A little more on-thread topic, Mike Babcock was the Chief's coach from 1994-2000. They never made it to the Memorial Cup with him as coach, but came close.

Come on fischy, you're much better when you gloat instead of whining. Time to call up the Hanson brothers from the Charlestown team.

How do you define "irony"?

A Wings fan calling out cheap shots.

Well known as the dirtiest team in the league and some of their fans want to cry foul. Extra weak sauce, smothered please.

The Wings are playing levels far above anything I have seen them play throughout the playoffs. Congrats to them for that.

The Pens are playing the worst they have played and Therrien is so far out coached it's sickening. Not that it would change the outcome, because DET has brought a whole new level IMO. Much of that probably still has a lot to do with Bowman. The man is a legend as coaches go.

Congrats to the non-deuchebag fans (there really are a few) your team played well this year.

Wings a dirty team? That is funny. The knock against the Wings is that they are soft. Seems to me that you along with your coach are dreaming up reasons why the Pens are being schooled. The fact is that the Pens is not as good as you think they are.

They seem to have raised their game a bit, but it is not much different than how they played in the wins against Dallas and the Avs series.

How is Therrien being out coached? His team is being out worked and is inferior. Just compare the defensemen. The Wings top 4 are better than any of the Pens D.

All the trash talking aside, I feel for the Pens fans. I know what it is like to see the team that you think is the best taking apart by a superior opponent.

The Wings had the worst team in hockey in the 70's and early 80's. It started to turn around in the late 80's, but they could not compete with the top teams. they were fun to watch, but always came up short.

95, the Wings, win the President's Cup, cruise through the playoffs only to be swept by New Jersey. 96, Colorado beats us in the Conf Finals, with Lemieux hit on Draper.

97 and 98, we finally broke through. Then another 4 years of heart breaks. Up 2-0 against the Avs, lose the series 4-2. Lose to the Kings in the first round.

2002 another cup.

2003 swept by Ducks in first round, 2004 6th seed Flames beat us in round 2. 2006 lost in first round to 8th seed Oilers. 2007 Lost to Ducks, but thought we had em beat.

Hopefully, the Pens will lose this year, but come back in the future against another team and win a Cup. It is probably the hardest championship to win.

Time to line up Cromwell and give Osgood reason to flop around on the ice. Line up Franzen and send him back to headache land. Come on fischy, you're the one that posted the old time hockey brawl, no room for pity in hockey.
There is a difference between old time hockey and cheap shots. I doubt that the Pens contingent would be silent if McCarty ran around punching Crosby and Malkin in the face and skated away.:

Tonights game should be interesting.

All I have to say from the bench here is that anything can happen. The Stars were down three games and still made it interesting, Let the spirit of Lake Placid 1980 live on..

But I wouldn't bet on it........................................

Hats off to the Pens. I gave the brooms back to my wife.

Let's see what happens on Saturday. I am glad the old guys are getting an extra day off.

Incredible pace to the game last night, both ways. IMO, Fleury was the difference -- the save on the open net in the third period was the critical point. (Although continuing to work the forecheck as opposed to sitting on the lead was an excellent coaching decision.)

Had he not made that save, Detroit would have stolen the momentum, and probably tied it up soon after.

The post did make a save, and it was a beauty.

Buy Sam a drink and get his dog one too, fischermh gracious in defeat!!!! Well scratch my back with a hacksaw.

One game does not a come back make. Pens gotta win Saturday, they're all must win.

The Wings maybe as good as they've looked but I knew the Pens weren't as bad as they've looked.

A well played game by both teams is what the NHL needs to grow. Regardless of the Wings, Detroit sports media, and ficshermh portrayal of the Pens as resorting to cheap shots and agitation in game 2 to to get an edge, that's not how the Pens play. That was frustration fueled bad judgment in the end. Remember Mario always criticized the league in his playing days for excessive goonery and obstruction. I can't imagine that he would tolerate a no skill approach to the team that he (and Burkle) owns.

To me the key difference in Game 3 was that the Penguins stayed home and played their positions i.e. working as a unit instead of a bunch of pee wees all over the place.

And, indeed the goal post made a terrific, unbelievable save!

As seldom as I win, you get to be good at losing.

My posts have been mainly in response to the slams that the Wings are old and do not have comparable talent to the Pens.

I have my thoughts about game 3, but they would be viewed as anti-Pittsburgh. The Pens won the game, and all that matters is the scoreboard.

I look forward to Saturday's game.

Slam away ficsh. Really, it is all in fun for me. Sure, I want the Pens to win, at least look good in losing. I'll be a little down if they do lose and feel good if they win but I don't base my life on what my favorite sports teams do.

My vitriol is in response to your confidence in the Wings superiority. Watching them play I can see why you're so sure. Believe me, the sports media in Pittsburgh give Detroit their due and take the Pens to task for their bad play. Really, they are just stunned that the Pens looked so bad and they've been calling out Malkin on his disappearing act. I suspect that the sportscaster that said the Wings talent can't compare to Crosby and Malkin was the same shock jock that got fired yesterday from his #1 rated local ESPN radio gig for his numerous crude and outlandish remarks during his tenure. Was the idiot Mark Madden?

My taunting you about officiating has more to do with my belief that NHL officiating is the most subjective in professional sports and how seemingly easy it is for coaches to influence them with public whining. Example: Wings complain about a questionable goalie interference call and get 2 soft calls the next game. Pens complain about obstruction at center ice, Wings get called for holding at the blue line. It has improved since the days of a single ref that would "put the whistle in the pocket" in the 3rd period but it still seems rather whimsical to me.

I still say Pens in 6. Wings have been grounded and the old men will wear down just as the kids hit their stride. Besides, the Wings have nobody as talented as Crosby and Malkin.

I believe Ryan Malone said as much too.

Have you seen this? NBC should have shown this instead of the fluff pieces prior to the game. The Igloo was ROCKING. I hate to see this place torn down & replaced, no matter how old it is.
Can the Pens make it 2 all tomorrow???? but I will be pulling for them.
Crosby is a force to be reckoned with.....another white out scheduled for the Igloo????

That was a post? At the time, the announcers claimed it was Fleury.

Talent aside, what has Malkin actually done? He is looking quite slow compared to the old men.

OTOH, Hossa is looking better than the choke artist he was in Ottawa. But he's got better linemates too....

If you are talking about Homer's shot, it was the post. I thought it was a goal, hard to believe he missed it.

Crosby played better than games one and two, but I was not all that impressed. he only had three shots, two of which went in. I thought the first goal was real soft. I was surprised that Ozzie let it in. The second he put himself in a good spot, got the rebound and put it in an empty net.

Don't take me wrong, I am not being critical of him. Just with all the hype, I expect to see a Gretzky type performance.

Malkin created a play or two Wednesday. First sighting of him in 5 games, but nothing remotely fantastic.

He's either
A) injured (which I'm doubting)
or
B) showing the world he's not the 8+ million a year player everyone thought he was. Spectacular regular season but dismal play off run with exception of Round 1. Round 2 he got less and less and by Round 3, he was invisible.

Gonna be interesting to see what happens to his contract offers in the off season. Regardless, I think he just became a lot cheaper to acquire or retain.
