Hey SegBrown,

Looks like things worked between the Caps and Avs as I speculated on earlier.

2:36 p.m. Clearly, the Colorado Avalanche had a plan for Sergei Varlamov all along. Less than an hour afetr surrending a first and a second-round pick to get the negotiating rights to the young goalie, Colorado signed him to a two-year deal, which is reportedly in the same neighborhood as the deal signed by Carey Price in Montreal.

It's been crazy time in Flyerland!!! I'm dizzy but they've got to be pretty close to done. Not much more cap space I don't think.

Yeah you keep giving us unhealthy players. ;-)

Hopefully this one works out -- it would be nice to have an elite goalie again.

Varly is healthy now; he just doesn't seem to stay healthy. I'm actually glad that he's playing out West. When he's healthy and on his game, he's one of the best.

Flyers also signed Max Talbot. This should further spice up the Keystone rivalry.

If he comes to the Avalanche, it will be assured that he won't stay healthy. (yes, I'm jaded)

I just noticed that the link you quoted called him Sergei instead of Semyon. I hope it isn't Sergei. :-)

Oh, just noticed JS Giguere signed here, too. Should be a good veteran backup for Varly (although isn't Giggy hurt too? it fits)

Hah, didn't notice the Sergei. Pasted from the blog at nhl.com. Looks like it's since been corrected.

Flash to Florida. They've been busy today.

Wonder if the Caps will resign Hannan? They did sign Roman Hamrlik today.

Flash for Hannan was UFA for UFA.

Started looking through the Hurricanes schedule today.  They have a 12 game season ticket package that is pretty affordable.  I'd be more interested in a 4 game package.  Think I'll ask a couple locals if they would be interested in all chipping in on a two seat 12 game set then splitting up the tickets.  Humm, that would be pretty cool.

Just saw this. I'm seriously depressed. I knew he was gone as soon as I heard Dupuis was resigned. Only one of them was going to stay. Can't blame him although I have a feeling the Flyers way overpaid for him in terms of years. Really going to miss him. Should be a very interesting season of Flyers v Pens games presuming the two headed monster is healthy.

The B's haven't finished celebrating and Michael Ryder signed for two years with the Stars, here we go.

Thanks for Kaberle. yahoo.gif I still remember him killing us as a Leaf.  Corvo is OK.  Not sure he is a good fit for Boston though..th_dunno-1[1].gif

Jagr and Max in PHILI?  nonono2.gif

I'm sorry that is just wrong.....there should be a law that a player can't cross over to the dark side  jk.gif

You can't spell Yagr without Jag (off). The Jagr watch was so weird here in the 'burgh. Jagr was a much despised person here in his final "dieing alive" era. Just as all that began to recede and we could appreciate the great years he had here back skate Jagr looking to get into the NHL. Sports writers here had him all but deliver with assurances from FOM (Friends of Mario) that it was a done deal. Pittsburgh was falling in love with Yags only to wake up one morning to discover that Jagr off will be wearing that hated Flyers sweater. I can't wait for Yags' return to Pittsburgh ice. The fans here have a whole lot of love to share.

It should spice up the rivalry.

Max well we don't like it but we don't hate him. Make your money Max and we'll buy you a beer the next time we see you down on Fifth.

LHC

Well, you're taking it better than I am then. Hell, I figured Max was a Pen for a least another 3-5 years if ONLY for the Cup win. The lack of any form of loyalty in professional sport is so sad.( on both sides) I miss the old days when a player could spend his entire career on 1-2 teams.(and you certinaly didn't go to a major rival when you left). Make your money? When is enough, enough?

So one hot climate team is gone!!!

And Canada gets another team  biggrin.gif

Let's see the trend continue.....

How does a city(like Winnipeg) who lost a franchise in the past prove that they can maintain one in order to get one back? I don't know if there really is an answer, I just thought I would throw it out there.

I don't know what the answer is but I sure hope we can do the same in Hartford! I also would like to see a team back in Quebec City as well.

I saw a few games at the good old Hartford Civic Center. That had to be one of the only arenas connected to  a mall. Every time I went, fights broke out either inside or on the way back to the car. It was always interesting to say the least.  Wasn't the problem with the Nordiques was that most of the people were Canadiens fans? You had to love the Stastnys though.

Yes, it was a fun night whenever the Habs or B's were in town  biggrin.gif

Quebec has the culture to support 2 NHL teams, put hockey back where it belongs!

When Ronny and Ulf went to Pitt in '91 it was all over, they just didn't know it yet. They did alright with the Pens that next year though  wink.gif

I just ordered tickets to take the kids to see the Hurricanes play the Penguins on December 3rd.  Let the games (and smack talk) begin!  There are many games that I would wear the Hurricanes' opponent jersey to but this ain't one of them.  DIE stinkin' penguins DIE!!!!!!!

With any luck we'll also hit a game sometime around February or March, maybe one more in April or a playoff game depending.

Nice! By coincidence saw Flyers/Canes twice last year. Pretty good games both times. Ward is pretty freakin' good when he is on. Should be a really interesting year in Philly.

The latest on Crosby isn't looking too good, it seems. Games without the guys you love to hate are nowhere near as much fun. I hope he's able to play again.

That is bad news all around.  Sorry for him and the others we lose every year to these terrible injuries..  Also, sorry for sports in general.  I suspect we're headed to a lot less contact in the sports we love so very much as we learn more and more bad news about the long term effects of concussions.

Anyone up for nonono2.gifMonday Night TOUCH Football?  I doubt I'd watch a version of hockey or football with very minimal hitting allowed.  Oh well, we probably still have a good 10-20 years before the shut it down to that degree.

Pre season is ON!

Gino looked pretty damn good last night against the Wings....we'll see more of him tonight opposite Chicago

OMG, Philthy killed the Leafs.  They really miss Tomas Kaberle.  I'm so glad we found him here in Kakalaki!  My kid is putting on hockey gear for Halloween this year.  We will get to at least two games most likely.

Clearly, I've got an interest. biggrin.gif  I'm in VA now (been rooting for the Caps since ~97), but family is still in CT. Unfortunately, it will be tough for Hartford to get another team. So close to NY/LI/NJ and Boston. Plus the Connecticut economy has lagged the national economy for years now, despite some pockets of affluence.

The Islanders could be a possibility, but with Connecticut's budget situation, I don't see funds being made available for a new arena. Haven't been there in 10 years or so (UCONN men's game), but I have to think that the Civic Center (or whatever it is called now) has to be pretty obsolete. Wolfpack plays there? Or in New Haven?

Wolfpack has been changed to CT Whale....and they do still play in what was the Civic Center (now the XL Center)
