What, no hockey fans? - Page 45
Well, you have obviously mastered typing on the Internet, so that places you in the top 1% of Flyers fans.
Some of my ice and roller teammates are Flyer fans, so are some of my baseball buds. I've experienced classy Flyer fans up close and personal. Nuff said.
Just giving you crap; I'm sure you'll give me some back.
Back when the Whalers were in the WHA, I actually rooted for the Bruins (Espo, Orr, Bucyk, Hodge, Cheevers, etc.), Rangers (Ratelle, Hadfield, Park, Villemure/Giacomonn, etc.) and the Flyers (Broad Street Bullies with Clarke and Parent, etc.)
I hated the Quebec Nordiques (and especially Dale Hunter) back in those days.
When the Whalers hit the NHL (briefly) and I moved to DC and eventually became a Caps fan (mid 90's), I hated them all like foot fungus. Along with the Penquins and Devils. Throw in the Hurricanes (Karmonos still sucks), and the Bolts, and I basically hate most of the teams the posters on this thread root for.
Fortunately, we all get along (somewhat) on the slopes. No hip checking allowed on the slopes, though I did elbow Jimmy into the trees at a T-Line Snowy Luau two years ago.
I had you pegged for a Nuggets fan.
But does he ski and hit the beach at A-Basin?
Had to hit Da Google to confirm he was related to Sylvain (heh, for all I know Turgeon is the Smith of Canada.) Yep, sho nuff. Whalers prodigy back in the day.
Buy you a dirty Martini at next year's Gathering if you say to him "Ooh-la-la Pierre" next time you see him. (Classic Buffalo broadcaster line FYI, so you know what to expect.)

Thankfully I don't have to watch the Pens try to score a goal anymore. They had their breaks and took advantage of 1 of the 36 they had. I'm disappointed but still a Pens fan. We'll be back next year and barring injuries we'll be back on top again. The worst part of it is now I'll have to hear about the Pirates until the NFL get its act together.
Hurricanes showed a lot of improvement over last year. The Stars started out very strong then fell apart late in the season. I'll pull for the Bruins and if they lose I'll pick someone else all the way to the Finals. I'm as much a "hockey fan" as I am a Canes or Stars fan. Can't say the same about Basketball or Baseball though. When my favorite teams lose there I quit paying attention.
Cheers to more good hockey, or see you next year..
Ohhhhh mannnnnnnn...... that gets you nothing but exasperation. I'll always cheer for them, but if it's not one thing, it's the other... I have to keep some distance there.
Well the consolation is that now I get to watch the Bruins and Flyers beat each other up.
Speaking of Goons, I originally gave Chara the benefit of the doubt, but after having seen the number of punches he delivered to the back of opposing players heads in the last series I'm taking it back.
BTW when did punching someone in the back of the head become legit? I didn't get the memo. It used to be roughing or some such thing.
I fear the revelations regarding the long term effects of multiple concussions are going to result in all sports being non conflict within 20 years or so. Flag football anyone? Didn't think so.
World Cup soccer really has gotten pretty lame with everyone going down and balling to try to draw a penalty whenever someone else gets within 2 feet of them..
I think that practice began, baring a few isolated exceptions some time in the late 1990s, but it didn't become popular until the Ref's starting falling for it, some time in the last 5 years, about the same time as it became accepted to turn ones back on a hit and not bothering to keep your head up and know what the other players are doing around you. I hope it doesn't spread to skiing.
Yup. Although I didn't like them too much today, I'd have to say.
For good reason, unfortunately. We've had 3 starting goalies already this year in the playoffs, and in 8 games, we've yanked the starter 4 times. That's an unbelievable stretch of shoddy goaltending. I have no clue who they'll start in game 2. I assume they'll stick with Boucher, but I don't know.
Bruins came out strong today, would have been a tough game even with better goaltending. Hoping for a little different result in game 2.
The announcers mentioned that somebody other than the two goaltenders(civs, had to go there!)who were dressed today, wouldmost likely get the start in game two.I am not familiar with the Flyers so I am not sure who they were talking about. On another note,Briere is one of those guys you hate,if he is not playing for you, kind of Ken Linseman. Maybe some day he too will don the BLACK and GOLD.
Since you are an Av's fan, how did Tomas Fleischmann work out for you this year? Wasn't he injured a bit? Interesting player for DC (some flashes for Flash); originally a lot of the faithful didn't think much of the trade, but Hannan has been a steadying influence on the back line.
