What, no hockey fans? - Page 41

Not much affordable pee wee hockey in NC either, but I might take him to the outdoor rink they set up downtown over Christmas break and see how he does on skates there.  I snagged some skates at a thrift store a half size bigger than he wears right now,  and I still have some, both pair are sharp/good shape.

Roller hockey is an affordable way for kids (and adults) to play (and learn to play) hockey. You may find regular pickup games at various paved areas nearby. Roller gear is generally less expensive than ice hockey gear and you can get by with less of it.

There are some obvious skating and stick handling differences between roller and ice, but they are more alike than different.

He does get to play plenty of boot hockey with his cub scout friends.  Two of them have nets and a barrel of sticks they play with in the driveways a lot, but no boards or skating.  I'd really like to teach him to ice sake as that skill will greatly help his skiing too.  If he asks for blades I'm sure we can find some of those too.

How about those Pens reaching the 100 point mark this season given who has been absent from the roster icon14.gif

And perhaps Bylsma coach of the year???

Pens vs. Devils tonight on VERSUS, 7:30

Go Pens  yahoo.gif

The Pens are a different team without Crosby and Malkin but Fluery has to be a serious contender for MVP. With the win tonight, one point away from the Flyers, talk about a different team! The Broad Street Bullies stuff is out and what a game they now play.

HAHAHA

Big games tomorrow; if the Pens win and Buffalo manages to fight its way into the playoffs with a win against the Flyers, the Pens have a very good chance at capturing the Atlantic.

Hurricanes and Rangers are in a dog fight for spot 8 in the East.  I like both teams, but my kid really hopes the Canes prevail.  We shall see who's in Sunday of course.

Well Pens won and Flyers lost again (but in OT). Whoever gets more points in their final game takes the Atlantic, Flyers get it if they tie.

Actually the Pens get the Atlantic if they tie in points.  First tiebreaker is wins and the Pens have two more than Philly.

No first tie breaker is non-shootout wins. Philadelphia has "won" two less games, but they have won all but three in regulation or OT. While the Penguins have won more games they have won eleven in the shootout giving the Flyers a nine game advantage in the tie break. The second tie break is head-to-head which the Flyers also hold at 4-2; The third is goal differential which, again the Flyers have at +1. The only way the Penguins take the #2 seed is if they beat Atlanta and Philadelphia loses OR They go to OT and the Flyers lose in regulation.

Yep tylr got it right, Pens win the Atlantic only by getting more total pints. A tie gives the nod to the Flyers. Let's hope their skid continues for 1 more game and the Pen win the last one. The Pens turned out to be a solid team without C&M and despite all the injuries. Bylsma knows how to make this team go. I hope they can find their power play.

Ah, didn't realize that shootout wins are not counted.  CBS Sportsline needs to clarify this on their conference standings page as it's incorrect as of now.

Well, the home team just eliminated themselves.  Stars are out too.  Still one former home team alive though.  We have jumped ship.

Go Rangers!

We also like the Hawks and Bruins some.

Honestly, I will say I like the smash mouth cheap shot "dirty birds" better than last year's version of the Penguins.  I am of the opinion that there is a place for thugs in the game of hockey.  My kid likes them OK too.

Maybe they'll get Racki next season to replace Cooke

Here's some drama.  The Wild can close the door on Dallas' playoff hopes.  I bet the folks up in Minnesohhhtahh would really enjoy that.

Game on!

GO RANGERS! .........and PENS!

Grew up in Upstate NY rooting for an aging Phil Esposito and the Rangers, but now live in Pittsburgh.

Root for the Rangers and Pens now, but am a Rangers fan at heart when they face each other.

Stars choked, Chicago slides back in the back door.  OK, admittedly a HUGE Stars fan here, but I find it hilarious that the Mild just eliminated the Dallas Stars  from the playoffs in front of a huge crowd of cheering Minnesota fansroflmao.gif

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!! yahoo.gif

Actually, the Stars lost to the North Houston Aeros, as a good chunk of the team the Wild put on the ice tonight were just called up from the farm club... But anytime we can stick it to the Stars, we be one happy set of campers!

So, do you think Vancouver is happy to once again have the Hawks between them and Lord Stanley's Cup?

^^^I was hoping you saw that and would drop in.  Not sure what's up with Vancouver .  I have a feeling this might finally be Boston's year.  But they do still lay a huge turd here and there.

At one point in the season, the Wild had managed to overachieve themselves into second in our division, were 4th or 5th in the conference, then blew it all away in a really horrible month of March.  The local paper put it best.  This is a mediocre team and it finished right where it deserved to finish.

Canuck's - Pen's in the final's would be a great match-up, especially if Crosby is back by then (not sure of his status - is he back already or out indefinitely?).  On the other hand, in the West, the Ducks seem to be peaking at the right time.  I wonder if Niemi will rediscover his playoff magic and this will finally be the year for San Jose?  I give my dark horse nod to the Sharks to come out of the West.

Can't wait for Wednesday!  LET'S PLAY HOCKEY!!

Did anyone see Adam Foote's final shift yesterday? roflmao.gif First he flips Smid's stick 40 ft up in the air, then committed about four penalties on Hartikainen. It was beautiful. That he played his last game on a broken ankle only adds to it. Great ending to an otherwise forgettable season.

(Just the first minute)

I'm thinking Crosby is highly doubtful unless they get deep into the playoffs.  He's been skating with the team, but no contact yet at all.  I don't think the Pens will risk their franchise player on a single playoff run.  Not letting him come back would give him another 5-6 months of recovery time.

I agree completely.

His skating with the boys is good for moral, both his and theirs.(and the fans too!)

Pen's can beat the Bolt's without him.  Fluery vs. Roloson gives a definite edge to the Pen's.  Rollie can be a really streaky goalie (as he showed with the Wild and taking Edmonton to the finals one year) and could give the Pen's fits if he gets into a groove, but, as much as I liked him when he was with the Wild, at 41, his best days are behind him.

First casualty of the off-season: Wild fire coach Todd Richards after two seasons with the team.  Don't know what management expected given the level of players he had to coach.  It's hard to play an up-tempo, puck control style when your players are slow and can't seem to make a pass (or put a shot on net!).

Fluery is looking exceptional this year. Pens might be able to ride him all the way to a cup. I can't remember the exact rules, but would Crosby or Malkin be listed on the Cup if they won it (assuming neither come back before then)?

Time to have "the talk" with him Charles!  There is no rooting for the Wings unless you live in Detroit.
