PSIA Team Tryouts in Mammoth

Thread Starter
I wonder who else is going to the Alpine Tryouts in Mammoth this April. PSIA-NW is representing with around 10-13 of us and I am looking forward to Mammoth late spring. On one hand it is amazing that I am going, I know not everyone in the ski world thinks that much of the Team, but as a skier that owes all of my ski prowess and knowlegde to PSIA, I am still of the opinion that the Team does indeed represent a great deal of skiing excellence. I am going, partly, because I have been encouraged by clients and colleagues and I am really enjoying having such a magnificent goal in front of me. If nothing else, I urge anyone to consider aiming for the next level of certificaiton/examiner/trainer...there is nothing but forward when you set your sights on a target, and the process of preparation is so rewarding in and of itself.

Nuf rambling, just wondering why I have not seen any discussion about this mega event that is around the corner.

Cheers,
Greg

Good luck. One of the guys from my mountain is trying out for the Nords (I think he'll make it!).

i hopefully will be there for my L2 telemark exam. i passed my L1 a couple of weeks ago and got the green light to go for 2. a group of us talked Urmas (head of PSIA-W Nordic Downhill) to schedule a prep and exam before the season ends. if we have enough people doing it, then i'll be in Mammoth.

either way, a friend who has been coaching me along this season... i believe will also be trying out for the Telemark team.

Thanks Holiday,
I am really looking forward to skiing with your Tahoe pals. Well, I guess I will be standing at the top waiting my turn to make some turns watching you pals ski and visaversa.

Greg, good luck, I heard earlier this week there will be 100 trying out. I've had a chance to ski with a few guy's and gals trying out and their training very hard, good diets ect. Think I'll go for a day or two and watch. GOOD LUCK AGAIN!

Slide,
Thanks for the well wishes, 100 sounds great. It is amazing when you put this carrot out there, the diet gets dialed in a bit tighter, the creativity in dryland gets real fun and vigorous, and the things you start doing on skis if you free your mind are cool. I can recommend this process to any pro. I do hope to meet as many spectators and participants as possible, I booked my room for the whole time and will stay and ski whether I am participating or spectating.
Thanks again,
Greg

What if they made the tryout a reality show and epicski members did the voting...do you think that would capture the insanity of 100 hot skiers going head to head to be on the Demo Team?

Hi GR8TRN!

Have a Great Time and Best Wishes for you realizing your dream! I would love to do something like that down the road. I just got my Level III this season, and have another little one on the way, so I'll be tied up for a few years. I do totally believe in your statement that having goals set helps to get you where you want to be.

Enjoy yourself!!!!

Nolo,
You know reality shows are all produced and marketed to create a given "reality". Would be fun though.

S.M.,
Thanks for the encouragement. I did happen to read of you winning Level III event. Congratulations, and while with child, WOW. I clearly recall my head examiner telling me the evening that I attained Level III that this was just the beginning. No truer words as it turns out. I hope the same for you, keep up the good work

GR8, I think the Team and the profession could use the media attention and I suspect the public might find the Demo Team quite irresistible, like they do the American Idols.

Whattaya think, would the members of epicski make as good a selection as the committee of experts and insiders?

Nolo,
You get the TV producers, I'll tell Rob and Katie they don't have to worry about the selections

Max501,
First day on snow is Monday April 28, and it goes all week.

Thanks Daysailer1, don't think I have skied with Chris, look forward to it.

No, they wouldn't, but I'm sure Mermer would make a good Simon.

It probably wouldn't be that hard to find a channel that would carry such a show. VS or something like that. Follow a couple members and hopefuls as they get ready to tryout again.

I think it's a killer idea. Of course! It's mine. For judges we could have Mermer, Weems, and Squatty Schuler: "Nah, that ain't it."

Good luck to you Gr8, and of course to our own Robin Barnes, Kathy Brennan, Jenny MacArthur, Jim Schanzenbaker, Nick Herrin, Jeb Boyd, Mike Rogan, and Charlie MacArthur (Nordic). (I hope I haven't missed any of the ESA coaches who will be there.)

Max, you should go.

Bob Barnes mentioned that he was going to try to get to Mammoth as well. Best of luck to all the attendees!

Mmmm . . . Mike Beagan? SICK skier.

Two people from my mountain are going (one Alpine, one Nord). I would LOVE to see a reality show based on the tryout. Just imagine almost 100 skiers at the tops of their games, from all over the country, going all out for 12 spots . . . Showing the crashes, the sick lines, the risk/reward decisions, all with running commentary from someone who has been there before and knows what it takes. . .

I actually had that exact same thought 2 years ago, but luckily didn't copywrite it, so it's yours for the taking.
